Two "movie gun" questions for you.

I was sitting here watching "Joe Kid" and was trying to figure out what kind of rifle the character "Mingo" is carrying. In some views the receiver looks like an old 1891 Mosin Nagant which has an over sized bolt handle knob, a half-hex, half round barrel. But in one scene he appears to be cocking a hammer on it with his thumb. I think we discussed this before but I've forgotten if anyone clearly identified it before.

Caught "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" on last night while visiting my parents...knowing what the stories were really about when I saw that movie in the theatre I was so uplifted I was ready for the Rapture right then! (Felt uplifted last night as well).

OK.....you have 30 minutes warning (which almost never happened in the books) before going to Narnia to help fight the White Witch's army. No time to order a new gun or even buy ammo, only what you have on...

Went into a little place that never had anything.....

walked out with a G-VG condition 1933 M-27, matching w/rod, nice bore and a Chinese AK 75-round drum new in the bag all for $150...

Left the receipt out in the car so you just gonna have to trust me when I say it was $150...

The story on the drum was...they were doing the paperwork on the M/27 and I was just looking around and I saw a 30rnd mag in a bag still NIW (chinese)...

I guess I'll start unless it's already been done....

I think we all have a lot to be thankful this Thanksgiving, aside from the obvious: life, our great country, our brave guys fighting in ever challenging conditions, our freedoms, friends, good times on this forum.

Let each of us add some special ones to this thread.

Mtn Doc is alive and doing better! He also has new respect for pavement, friction, and young girls on cell phones.

I am thankful for air resistance and proper packing techniques....

Mumbai Attack Police Rifles

Dozed off on the couch tonight, and I woke up to the phrase "police responded armed only with WWII bolt action rifles." That drew my attention. It was a show on PBS about the Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008.

The regular police were swarming around with #4 Enfields. I didn't realize these rifles were still being used in any "official capacity" anywhere. Cool!

Looked like the elite police units were armed with FAL's & Galils.

Favorite REAL semi-auto rifle.

Apparently polls can only go in the Parallax View but since they've been on my mind here of late, I thought I'd see what you guys thought.

A "real" semi-auto consists of a wooden stock, blued steel, and rifle caliber.....no poodle shooters need apply! LOL

I recently purchased one of the P-83s that J&G has. Note in the pictures the billboard stamp. I will withhold my opinion of that due to tender ears.
Note the last set of pictures. They compare the P-83 magazines to Makarov magazines. Also note in the pictures the difference in the slide serrations, sights, markings, hammer and finish.

Went to an auction Friday night...the money is tight, that's for sure, so things were going for less than usual. But- a $70 Arisaka? Nicer than the ones I have, so I couldn't resist. Nor could I resist the VERY early Colt Detective Special, the Sig Sauer 220 with crimson trace, the NIB Dan Wesson, etc., etc.......I DO love an auction, especially when everyone there is interested in Remchester ultramagnums, handguns in rifle calibers, etc. Besides, it's my duty to save these...

Or anyone else who has knowledge about a hydraulic shop press. I'm looking at buying a fairly small table top shop press for minor gunsmith and tinkering work. I've decided I've buggered up my last gun hammering a pin out with a punch. The latest was removing a pin from a High Power that held the mag. safety in place. Harbor freight has a six ton press that they state is accurate within thousands of an inch. What does that mean? I've heard other comment that other models...

I went to ship a gun the other day with FEDEX. I had not used their service for 6 months or so mostly using the USPS. Anyway when filling out their form for ground shipping they didn't ask what was in the package. Although I had enclosed a copy of my C&R and a copy of the FFL dealer I was shipping the rifle to and everything was above board and legal I still cringe at the enevitable questions.
