below that 1942, and below that 8..   the wood,  clip ,and bolt all have the same ser.#.    the &quot; c &quot; in the ser. # indicates this is a savage? it
also has the battle flip up sight with graduations 2 thru 13 . I am wondering if this is the correct sight because it is marked mk2.  I brought the  gun to the

			<description><![CDATA[ I purchased a couple of #1 MK 3 rifles to restore.  One of them has a hole drilled in the receiver.  It looks like they all have a factory hole in this
location but this one has another hole drilled with it to make it bigger.  Has anyone ever saw one like this?  What is the original hole for?  I am assuming
that it would not be safe to shoot in this condition but I am just wondering why it had the hole drilled as it looks like it was imported this way.  The red is

			<description><![CDATA[ Just got my No. 5 this afternoon. Heavily shellaced and painted, nice looking bore. Disassembled as soon as I got it home to give it a once over, but I cannot
get the buttplate off. When I turn the top screw all it does is turn the bottom screw. All of the dissassembly info I have found shows 2 short screws holding
the buttplate on. These 2 screws are definitely connected somehow and I can only get them to loosen up so much. put a screwdriver in each and did some

I have a SMLE No.1 MK.III Bolt with rust on its internal threads. Have tried a brass brush in a drill with Kroil, the penetrating oil, as a lubricant with no
success.

I think a hex bolt of correct size with correct spec threads would chase the threads if used with Kroil.

Can anyone please supply the correct thread specification for the Bolt/Bolt Head of the SMLE No.1 MK.III

I inherited my grandfathers service rifle a few years ago. It was sporterized but I will not discusse that in accordance with site rules.

When I inherited it there where almost no identifying  markings on it. I was getting it registered and the gent I took it to had it for about 2 weeks  before
he was able to identify with certainty (not sure how, the markings are so few) that it was a Lee Enfield No1 Mk3.

 The barrel has proof markings from 1907, and the cross flags, and about 10 others, wrapping around the barrel under the stock, all different dates and crowns.
