What to look for in an M1 Garand?

I am going to get an M1 Garand. Have to watch price so am not looking for a prime collectable. Just a good, reliable shooter representative of the breed. What to look for? Avoid? Acceptable price range?

Krag and Colt's New Model Army and Navy in Action

Hi All, I know there are a few Krag people here!

Not many videos out there featuring these types of guns and I believe that at least a couple of you will find this interesting.

The Colts New Army is loaded to full powered SAW era Service specs.

The Krag is squibbed with 215gr lead bullets at about 800fps so as not to blow holes through the steel targets. Unfortunately, it was sighted for 125 yds and I just couldn't get on for those last 5 shots at 200yds-too...

Pedersen Device

When I was at the Wanenmachers Gunshow in Tulsa Ok last month a gentleman had a very nice table of USGI military rifles. Among the fine offerings was a Mark1 Springfield complete with Pedersen Device. I saw the same set up there last year and it is a beautiful piece of equipment not often seen. I just noticed one for sale on GunBroker. Mark1, the Device and accessories. I believe it is starting at $55,000.
Ain't that sumpthin.....

edit: Actually the Buy it Now is $55K....

M1 trigger binding

Since putting Bob's M1 in a new CMP stock we have had a problem with some sort of binding at the very end of the trigger pull. It is very mushy and sometimes you have to pull way harder than normal. It works fine in the old stock.

The lock up is tight but nothing extreme, you can close it with your thumb.

I cannot see where it is binding.

Anyone had this problem before?

I'm considering doing some "sell-this-for-that" collection management this winter....and possibly adding a semi or two.
I'm not interested in the 223 stuff--my mini 14 throws enough brass to keep the kids happy. I do like the 7.62 NATO/308 round, though!
At the last show in Boise, I fondled and drooled over several examples of the M1A, AR-10, and an FN FAL with the Israeli front-end.
So: what advice/comments (including the best, and cheapest sources) do you...

US 1917 Receiver Ping Markings

I have been checking out various forums to find out what the ping marks on the receiver stand for. I know that rifle had been refurbished at some point, are these the indicators or a speicific armory. The rifle and barrell match for 1918 original build.

U.S. Model of 1917 stock question

I just acquired a nice M1917 Eddystone rifle with a '42' on the end cap of the stock, rather than a letter, such as E, R, or W. Anyone know what this signifies?

I don't have a good reference for 1903 bolt types. I have 3 bolts of early type, 1 with straight handle and 2 with bent handle, and all 3 marked 'J5' on the bottom of the safety lug. Is my memory that this is a DHT bolt code correct?

Setting up a Co witness system

Ok I have an EOTech 512. Yesterday I put it on my CMMG Bargain basement AR. When I put the Eotech all the way forward the rear BUIS is too close and I can't operate the controls. I took the BUIS off and tried to set the Eotech. When I get the eotech adjusted the front sight is in the way. I can't see the target as the display is centered on the front sight base.
I then put it on my SIG 556 SWAT. Same thing the display is aiming at the front sight base.
Help!!!!

Sportered 1917 and 03A3

Recently picked up a sportered 1917 and 1903A3. Both look like they can be re militarized fairly easily:

The 1917 is an Eddystone, with a High Standard barrel. The bore gauges just over a "0" on the CMP muzzle gauge and is shiny with strong rifling. It will not close on a field gauge.

The 03A3 is in a nice looking maple stock. Hasn't arrived yet, but is...

SG has what looks like a pretty good deal: Vietnam-era parts kit for the M16A1. Anyway, if I had the cash I might would do it, that way you could have a complete AR for about 700.00.

1917 Enfield bulged/ringed barrel

I finally was able to purchase an excellent condition Remington M1917 that was made in July, 1918.(been looking for one like this a long time!) The rifle has been through a rebuild at one time and has a 5/18 Eddystone barrel. When inspecting it and cleaning the bore I felt a space approximately 3 inches from muzzle when patch got loose for about 1 inch then tightened up again?
