I have recently seen this gun listed in book of small arms of World War II. I would be interested in any info on this rifle.has any one ever seen one of these guns I have been around guns and been to a lot of gun shows and never seen one of these. what would one of these be worth thanks ernie

Was the 99 made in 6.5 as well as 7.7?

The title pretty much says it all. I've been seing a lot of auctions on GunBroker and AuctionArms that have said their Model 99 was in 6.5 caliber. I've always thought that the 99 was only in 7.7.

I have a Arisaka type 99 last ditch, built at Kokura Arsenal, Series #25. Some one sportized the stock by cutting it about 5" forward of the front sling swivel. Ive Looked at numrich and tenneese gun parts. and gunbroker also.I would like to find a original stock for this rifle. Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

Well, I bought a Carcano Type I the other day. It looked pretty good in the pictures, I've been looking for one for the last year, and the price was "smoking," $225.00 and with shipping and all $260.00. I'm not going to complain, I just hope the bore is half way decent.

Hi ,

I have a sporterized Arisaka 99 that was rechambered to 300 Savage then to 308 Win. I have some pulled bullets from old 303 Brit ammo and heavily corroded 7.7 ammo. (Kept some pf the better ones for my collection) Thinking of pulling heads of the 7.56 Argentine ammo to use the .312 dia bullets. Would those be ok to use?

Old Japanese ammo

Just received some Japanese 6.5 from an auction that listed it as surplus. Wasn't sure surplus of what. It was clearly older ammo, but that is what I expected. The headstamp ID has them from Kynoch factory in England, 1916 and 1917. A little information searching found that this was produced during of course WWI, but not for Japan, but for use in England in second line weapons, which I would presume to mean Japanese rifles. Drill Rifle gallery practice cartridges?

I found a page awhile back that described various gallery practice loads used by the Japanese in smoothbore Drill rifles normally considered only suitable for blanks.

Has anyone heard of a source for reproductions of these?
Has anyone ever tried loading some low pressure gallery practice type cartridges using a buckshot as a projectile?

I think the original practice bullet was a light projectile with some sort of fin stabilizer, kind of like a miniature shotgun slug.

Unlike my other Japanese rifles the upper barrel band is un-numbered. The mum is ground, and the Japanese characters for "Type 99" were never stamped on the receiver. I saw the big collection at the museam couple three weeks ago. Am I right in over 300 mannaquins with military uniforms complete? Stayed about and hour and a half, would have like a half day. Something to see riceone.

Arisaka Type 99 Questions???

Cleaning out my dad's old house I can across an Arisaka Type 99. From what I can gather from research it was made at the Kokura Arsenal, it's a series 28 (I think), it has a mum (from what my dad told me, my uncle shipped it home before the war ended). The rear sites open and extend and be blade was made at the Toyoda Jidoshoki Seisakusho. I have tried to include pictures, but I get an error. So I have included links to the pictures. I have a type 38 Calvary carbine that is in excellent shape. It does not have a mum (not defaced)_ and no British broad arrow markings on it. It does not have any import marking on it either. I have a chance to buy it for around $200.00

It has an excellent bore. Also it has 4 boxes of Norma and 4 boxes of reloads.

6.5 rechambered to .30/06

I've run across mention of a Japanese 6.5 rifle that by some fluke was rechambered to .30/06 and survived firing quite a few rounds without damage. This has been quoted by some to support an argument that oversize bullets will not greatly increase chamber pressure.
Apparently the NRA ran some tests on this rifle many years ago. They reported that the bullets were elongated by passage through the small bore.

I figure that in order for the pilot of a .30/06 reamer to fit into...

First, thanks riceone; a couple of good wacks and I got the old sight spring off. I was reluctant to hit an old milsurp that hard but it worked.

Now, on further disassembly I found that my Type 38 had a rear long buttplate screw replaced with a phillips head screw. Gunparts and Springfield Sporters have none. Does anyone know of another source for this part?
