Hey DocAV! - Help with vz24 history

Hey guys picked up this vz24 along with a Mosin a few weeks back. vz24 code is RR 6643 , crest is ground off it. I'm relatively new to collecting and shooting firearms, Ive had an interest in WWII for a long time now and saw a k98 this summer in an antique shop and picked it up. I was curious as to this guns history, and also any tips on getting cosmo off? I've been told everything from gasoline to boiling water and I dont want to damage the gun, its in great shape.

Was recently following an on-line estate sale and noticed this one.

Any ideas on what it is? It looks verrryy short, and vaguely Czech. Not sure what to make of the stock. Description says it is marked with dot and 43, with waffenamps.

VZ24 Price Check

I have the opportunity to buy a Czech VZ24 in 8mm. It has a mismatched bolt, but the lion crest is intact. In the pictures the wood looks like it is in very good condition. The seller says the grooves are a bit dark, but the lands shine and are sharp. He wants $325 plus $30 shipping. I'm not all that familiar with the VZ24 (but I would like to have one); is this a reasonable price? TIA.

Hello all,
I picked this up this week at a local shop.I know the basics about this rifle, but I would like to know when it was made. I don't see an acceptance mark on the side of this, like my 98/22 has. I assume it was polished off during a refurb. What can you tell me about it guys?

It says ceskosslovenska zbrojovka as brno on it
it has a 92 stamped on the barrel
it also says 1831

I couldn't find another like this online to confirm model any help would be appreciated
rifle is incomplete bolt action is missing any info on this piece would also be appreciated I am hoping to track this down

Bolt and receiver serial match?

I posted this question in the bolt serial match thread above, but the crickets are chirping in there. Nobody seems to post in there anymore so I'll ask my question in a new thread. My VZ24 has a receiver Serial # 4973x4. The person who wrote post 39 in the bolt serial thread has a bolt serial # 4973. Would this be a match?

Rollercoaster sight on CZ 98/22

I have run into an early BRNO 98/22 with a rollercoaster sight on it at one of the gunshows. The owner said the sight was not a later addition, but rather a true early VZ 98/22. Can anybody confirm that these rifles were actually made this way?

Non German weapons used by Germans in WWII

The Germans used weapons captured from the various countries they conquered to supplement their own weapons supply.
I just obtained a prewar French Mas 36 and stamped in small letters just under the serial number in the stock is a small stamp, LK5.
The theory is that this is either a German capture & check mark or possibly a German unit assignment stamp. However there are apparently no German documents known so far to prove this theory.

A friend on my uses a gunsmith who has over a hundred Czech mausers which he uses to build custom deer rifles (and supposedly some are in "near mint" condition). I'm going to try to buy one or two and am wondering what I should keep an eye out for. I know that crest are desireable, but what crests? What do they look like? Also, I know alot of Czechs don't match, so if I find one with a perfect crest that doesn't match should I take it before one that matches perfectly...

I'm new to the group and mew to VZ24s. ANd I'm hooked! I just received my first one from SOG. Is is an E3 Lion 37. I'd call it 80% original blue. The receiver has been scrubbed. No crest or anything on the bridge. The barrel and receiver are the only things that match, #555_. The stock and bolt are not heavy with cosmoline. The stock is dark and grimy. The bore is the only problem. The rifling fades to nothing about an inch from the muzzle. It has not been counterbored. I rammed a...

I need info IDing a bolt action rifle.It has no identifiying marks,so I assume it was built in post war germany.It has a duel trigger system and the barrel unscrews and detatches w/the forward section of the stock. It was in a case marked "bolt-action Mauser".

I have a series 4 VZ24 with only the date {1940} on top of the receiver Romanian issue {I think}and two lines on the receiver. Serial is PP XXX The end of the barrel is two pieces. I believe teh series 4 is the most common of the vz 24s. The barrel has been fitted with a unrifled 1.75 inch long cylinder machined to the same outside diameter of the barrel. Vz 24 finish

Hi Guys,

I have a cosmo soaked VZ24 with a "bubbled" up finish where the cosmo is trying to seap out. Does anybody know what the original finish is and how I can remove it without ruining the stock. Tried acetone and some comes up but still, there are gooey bubbles of cosmo/old finish mix coming up.

Here's one I picked up at a show several years ago.
It's been cleaned and touched up, but the bore is still rougher than 5:00 shadow.
I picked it up for the crest and matching numbers more than anything else. It's pictured with a refurb'ed bayonet, notice the paint on some of the parts....

VZ24 Cleaning rod inqiiry. . .

1. I have a VZ24, E4, 1938. I purchased a cleaning rod. The cleaning rod cannot be inserted without removing the front sling swivel screw which passes completely through the rifle. Why is it set up this way?

2. Why is the cleaning rod not made long enough to completely pass through the bore?

3. My K98 bayonet attaches well enough, but there is about 1/16" of free play in the catch. Is this normal?

I'm just curious: Was the ammo for the Czech vz52 only produced in full-metal jacket, or is there any hollow-point ammo available? Or soft-nose, etc...

The serial number is 6326 M4
On the receiver there is the lion and E3*37 and in small letters: Waff.Schu.
The proof stamps of Belgium are on the barrel and the receiver(= here a legal obligation)
