just picked up a yugo referb 98K with most of the markings but the Yugo crest was ground off the top of the action.  Any idea on why or just my luck.  Thanks

			<description><![CDATA[ I purchased one of these at a gun show last year.  The crest had been ground off.  All numbers match on the rifle on everything including the barrel bands. 
The bore is pristine looks like almost never fired.  I was always wondering why this was done.  I have read the answers here and am still perplexed.  Any ideas
other than what is here.  Sure is a nice K98.  Has only mod 98 on the receiver.  Thanks for your helpl

			<description><![CDATA[ I agree with kenb, it&#39;s a Czech crest with the rampant lion.    The Yugoslavian &quot;Tito&quot; crest is usually stamped higher up on the receiver ring,
and doesn&#39;t extend that low.   I think the remaining portion of the crest  is the leg or knee of the standing lion (one leg is kicked out in front of the
other).   Perhaps the Yugos got their hands on some early post-WWII Czech built K98s.....like the ones that Samco was selling with the big trigger guard.

			<description><![CDATA[ rlarson13, I wouldn&#39;t find a czech crest all that surprising being pressed into yugoslav service. The germans used oodles of czech weaponry in WWII and to
think this one could have fallen into yugo hands is a real possibility. Too bad it is not intact as that is a super cool piece. I wish I had bought all the
yugo mausers and SKSs I saw at gunshows with all the stock carving and such. Just a few short years ago they could not give such rifles away around my neck of

We&#39;re very lucky to have Branko.  As far as I know, ours is the only such forum he follows.  And he didn&#39;t just go away as soon as his book was
published as some authors have.  He has also shared a lot of stuff not in the book too.  Very generous that. He has put into public domain much he could
