Actually not all of these rifles are rechambered 7.65 barrels a number of them were asenal rebarreled to .30/06, others were rechambered 7.65 bores and these
can still be accurate if you reload using Hornady .312 bullets designed for the .303 british and Jap 7.7.

Best to slug and mike the bore and get a chamber cast. Only real problem with using the .312 bullets would come if the chamber neck was too tight. Thats not
generally a problem if the chamber was cut to military specs.

pipefitter,

I suggest you try your rifle out with the military ball ammo. It may surpise you, or it may suck.

If your a handloader you could load your .30-'06 brass with .311/.312 British Enfield bullets. Slug your bore first to make sure this would be an
appropriate diameter bullet and that these bullets will slip into the neck of your fired brass without resistance to insure the chamber neck is not to tight
for these oversized bullets.

In a Word NO NO NO.
These abominations were done by Importers in the late 1960s to clear out remaining stocks of good M1909 Argy Long rifles and Carbines(some Mint), due to GCA68
and an Argy ammo shortage They simply ran a standard 30/06 reamer in, and extended the chamber.
Nothing was done to the rifled part of the barrel.
So a standard .30/06 cartridge will fit, and fire...the bullet, being grossly undersized, with rattle down the bore (usu.. .314) and go on its...
