And, for my part, I was merely attempting to argue your comments in a "friendly" manner. If that wasn't apparent, I apologize.

I believe that the comment "in context with it's time" was meant to point out that the movie was made to bolster American moral after the attack on Pearl Harbor

Actually, I consider those folks who deem to partake in these forums to be just that, friends. Or at least, someone who enjoys some of the same things that give me joy.

Actually, the release date was September 27, 1941, more than two months before Pearl Harbor. This was a matter of having made the right movie at the right time, even if not planned. I see this movie as sort of like a Model T Ford - I like to see them at antique car shows, and they were great in context of the time that they were made, but no way would I have one as my primary mode of transportation today. And did you ever notice that the term "my friend" rarely ever means that?

As for the argument that it should be considered in context with its time, Citizen Kane was made the same year.

I believe that the comment "in context with it's time" was meant to point out that the movie was made to bolster American moral after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and that for a war movie of it's time, it was not only high budget, but well done. I wouldn't argue for a second that "Citizen Kane" was a better...

Bact to Seargent York for a moment - yes, it was nominated for Oscars in practically every category, but I think it benefitted greatly from being a patriotic film made in 1941. The awards themselves took place in February of 1942, about two and a half months after Pearl Harbor. One of the nominations was for "Scoring of a Dramatic Picture", which essentially consisted of repeated renditions of "Over There". Gimmee a break! As for the argument that it should be...

You may be thinking of "Hell in the Pacific," Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune. IMO, one of the best war movies ever made.

I saw that "killer kids" movie also and can't remember the name. It sucked.

Hadn't seen either one of those. I saw the "Death Watch" one on sale at Blockbuster a few years ago. Started to get it just for the sake of collecting movies but didn't.

It actually reminded me of one of the mini-stories in the "Heavy Metal" movie. Remember the shot down aircrew guy set in WWII? If you can think of the name of the first one give us a post.

How about that movie about the two US GI's in Europe during WWII who go AWOL and hideout in a house.......only to find it inhabited by killer little kids with various handicaps, mental and physical and an old couple who raised (trained) them, a little girl in a mask and a kid with no legs armed with a Luger stand out. Anyway , the Germans come to loot the house of priceless paintings hidden in the basement, and theres a huge "fire fight" kind of, and they show a tank and about...

I sat through "Fixed Bayonets" Korean war monstrosity.
Worse than "Escape To Athena" which did have some cool vehicles.

War movies with characters shouting in tactical situations make me cringe.

I am sure I will offend many of the nostalgics on this forum, but while "Seargent York" may not be the worst military-themed movie ever made, it's right up there. The cornball dialouge, obviously fake back-drops, and generally poor acting make it one of the worst I've ever seen.

"Death Before Dishonor" was shockingly bad.

Actually, I thought this was one of those "good, really bad movies." The part with power tools was a hoot. But the part where Dan Dryer tied the little flag to the antenna was for me quite poignant.

I believe I have found it! I picked it up at a yard sale for $1. Not a complete waste of money; I will explain that later. It's called "IRON THUNDER" and it "stars" Richard Hatch (Apollo from Battlestar Galactica, not the yo-yo from Survivor).
