I've actually had two Swedes that had buggered rear sight bases. Like they got dropped on one side of the sight, or something hard and heavy was dropped
there, like another rifle perhaps?!?! In any case both of them had the low profile base ears on one side bent in, to the point that the sight ladder was pushed
off to the side when brought down into it's cradle. On one I used a blunt tool to peen the offending "ear" back over, and now you can't tell
the difference, but...

Rosebud and I'm not talking about a movie. It must be even heat all around the rear sight band. Like stated above the rear sight base alignment screw must
be removed. I honestly have never seen a buggered up rear sight base. I've seen them with messed up rear sight ladders but never a base other than the
bluing finish. If your replacing a barrel you will need to remove the front sight band also. Somehow though this sounds like a strange request...Jim

You sould not be using so much heat as to effect the receiver, but wrap it in a wet towel or rag just for safety sake. If the rear sight barrel band won't
go over the front sight, drift the blade out of the post dovetail. If it still won't clear you'll have to remove the set screw at the bottom of the
dovetail and unsweat the solder holding the front sight ring. I don't think you will need to do that though!

Thanks cruffel. Just a couple of questions?

1) Where is the best part to apply the heat so as to not impact any heat treatment on the receiver?

2) How do you get the band past the front sight?

Thanks in advance.

In that case.........They are held on by lead/tin solder. Remove the set screw, heat gently with a PROPANE torch just enough to melt the solder. Tap off with a
wood block. When replacing, clean and tin the inside of the new one first. It's very important to use just enough heat for the job.
