A Mosin Nagant sniper I'm fixing to buy shoots 1-2 inch groups at 100yd, but the reticle is about 1/4 right and 1/3 high. I'd like to grind/shim to
center. If anyone has some advice on how to do that, I'd appreciate the help. What to grind/shim, how to do it and how much to correct- stuff like that. I
have files and a Dremel, so it needs to be simple.

Just to clarify a bit you would shim underneath the mount where the large screw is. There should be two pads one at the top and one at the bottom of the mount
that contact the receiver. Judging by where your reticle is in relation to the bullet strikes they probably have already been ground a bit. If you dont like
shimming you can always put two small beads of weld where the pads are and file these downby hand. Wont hurt or discolor if you keep it small and quick. My
shim is just a piece...

Yes. This technique works for all rifles whether horizontially or vertically mounted. Just be sure to center the reticle before doing any shimming. If
you've never done this, just turn the turret all the way in one direction, count the clicks (or number of turns if it doesn't click) as you turn it all
the way back until it stops, then go back the previous direction one half the number of clicks (or turns) you counted.

You can do the same thing with the verticle adjustment...

So, I'd want to loosen the locking screws and then the attaching screws to slip a shim in between the base and receiver, right? I just want to be sure

If you have to shim, it is in-between the mount base and the receiver. Use shim stock like a feeler gage. Buy a cheap set and start with about a .005 shim.
Shoot and shim just the back end of the base until you find the right size. Cut off a small piece that just fits under the mount base, locktight and tighten.

The basic problem using this technique is that the screw pressure must be consistant and firm. And, it is possible to ruin a screw that may already be
marginal. You can try...

Look at Figure 7 on page 4. The inset shows the legs on the base. Those
should show grind marks. Not sure what you would use to shim - I've never done the shimming - always been able to resolve the zero issue with grinding.
See my post on restoring my Yugo sniper.

Its best to do this at the range or with a laser bore sighter. (easiest with a laser) If im not mistaken I believe your going to have to shim to bring the
scope FOV to the right so that your laser or bullet impacts line up with the reticle once its centered within the FOV. Up and down isnt an issue as you can use
the adjusting screws on the mount to center it.
