Yeah, I guess there really is not too much to worry about. I know I will feel better when I pick up my 91/30 next week at Big 5.

I was just havin' the So Cal blues. I was born and raised here but I want to leave permanently. I have obligations to family and children that's what keeps me here for now.

Don't worry, guys.

There are tens of thousands, if not more, of these refurb Mosins overseas still waiting to be imported. The market is saturated.

If the racks at your watering hole are empty, they'll fill up again. Just wait for Bubba to quit buying them for his nieces and nephews (after he "improves" them of course) and they'll be everywhere again. They're still at all the gun shows...

I feel that the main "glut" of Mosins may be kind of ending, but there will be plenty bouncing around here in the states to satisfy the needs of anyone who wishes to own one, a few or lots of them. I have read about gun dealers buying them by the crate when they were $40 a piece direct from the importer and now are selling the "cherries" for $170-200 and the rest for at least $100. One of my local dealers did this, he had a crate each of M44's and 91/30's and it...

$125 for a simple few minutes to do a transfer? That is highway robbery no matter how you look at it! We bitch and moan about a $20 transfer fee! But I can see slipping the 01FFL a Jackson to help him out in these trying times, as we do not want to see them all disappear. They know they have you over a barrelhead with transfer fees, but this amount is about as anti-gun as you can get! These guys who rip you off like that will get their just reward in the end!

All I know is that I don't want the prices to go up. Please no!

I used to have some Mosins in the past but sold them. After a few years I decided I would like to try again. I just purchased a 1942 Izzy 91/30 from Big 5. It's a very common rifle but it's nice to have one again and the prices are only just slightly higher from a few years ago. The Mosin bug bit me again.

But all this talk makes me nervous though. It's harder for me to buy these weapons now...

There is no way anyone is "out" of Mosins......what's next, are all the $120 Yugo M48's drying up?

There has never been a more numerously produced bolt gun in history, and the refurb Mosins will never be "collectible" to the "upper crust" of collectors who have mint Trapdoors in safes that they handle with white gloves. At worst maybe in 5 years a refurb...

As I undersatand it, and what I meant, was the cut out on the left side of the receiver that was omitted during wartime production. The earlier rifles with the left side cut, scalloped, is considered a low wall. The later war rifles without the scallop is considered the high wall. I got this info from 7.62x54r.net. That is an excellent resource for MN's

I started out with a shot out M44 form Big-5, then invested in reloading tools, (RCBS Dies, Lee Autoprime shell holder, culet (sp) for case trimmer). Since I already reload for two 303 Enfield Rifles I had plenty of bullets, primers and powder. Unfortunately, the M44s accuracy turned out to be rather disappointing. In a quest for better accuracy I found a pristine 1891/59 which frequently shoots into an inch at 50yd. Also have a Finnish M39 on the way.

I found a place in Downtown Topeka, KS. Viking Pawn and Gun, 112 SE 8th St. 785-234-4146.

They have 35 M91/30's all round receivers, some high walls, some low walls, dates from around 1938 to 1945. Izzy, and Tula arsenals. Pre-post and mid year stocks. 1/3 of them are conterbored. They look to be arsenal refurbs, or they are best looking lot of surplus guns ever

The day will come when a military rifle importation will end, and then Mosin Nagants will appreciate in value. The UN and certain international special interest groups are working on making that a reality. I expect the incoming presidential administration will be very proactive with the UN in banning the international firearms trade. Very soon countries like the Ukraine may receive US tax dollars from the UN to destroy Mosin Nagants that would ordinarily be imported to the US for the C&R...

Most Mosins on the market these days are refurbs and are in at least VG overall condition, although bore condition varies. It's always preferable to inspect firsthand before you buy (if that's possible), so most of mine have come from gun shows and Big 5.

Some folks don't want a counterbored rifle, while it doesn't matter to others. I'd rather not, but if the rifle is in otherwise great condition (or has a year date that I'm looking for) then I would...

I have talked to all the vendors. They are saying they are weeks behind in shipping. They also say if you want a Mosin Nagant, most have been counter bored on the first 3 inches in the front end. If you want one that is not counter bored, it will cost you extra. Some Mosin Nagants also have the "billboard" size import information on the side of the receiver. Be leary as to what you are ordering and what you are getting. Make sure you are not getting a Mosin Nagant from hell!

Well, in my neck of the woods (Arizona) there doesn't seem to be any shortage of Mosins. J&G Sales has their usual stock of M44's and M91/30's, Big 5 has them on sale periodically, and local sellers seem to be always offering them for sale. Hell, maybe they were all shipped here

I called the regular dealers that deal in Mosin Nagants today 12-17-08. All told me they were sold out. Most told me to check back in 11-12 days for Mosin Nagants. Apparently there has been a real rush on all guns. The Mosin Nagants are the least expensive and many are being used as "stocking stuffers". My local dealer has Mosin Nagant model 91-30s (standard models) for $159.00 before the ATF call, tax, etc..... All other local dealers are out of stock...... Best Wishes to you...
