Very cool jacket, Art. I don't think the Cal State mascot deal holds up though. Cal State Fullerton was started in the late 50's and they adopted the
Elephant as mascot in the early 60's.

Kevin,
My W.W. Greener 12 bore damascus barreled shotgun, probably from the 1880s (my great-grandfather's duck gun) doesn't have an elephant on the steel butt
plate, but does have an elephant 'proof' mark on each barrel along with the regular proof marks and some other markings whose meaning I can't
figure out.

An individual on another board said Cal State Fullerton, CA has both a ROTC program and an elephant as mascot. Perhaps that is it.

I found a leather workers forum and ordered some Dr. Jackson's leather rejuvenator on their advice. Lexol was also mentioned as being good for humid
climates. I think this will make a dandy range jacket after I get it back in shape....no cracks or tears. ROTC 1939, Camp Perry, sharpshooter=deep doo in a few
years.

I sure wish I knew what the top patch is.

You can use anhydrous lanolin found at a drug store for about $1.99 for a tube. No harsh chemicals and will help restore/preserve dry leather and make supple
again. I found out about this product when I did a search on the same topic and came across a forum that had a museum restoration guy who recommended this
method. I have tried it and it works.
