Ok, I just got a 1908 Brazilian mauser, with great rifling, even though the bore is a little pitted. The action is incredibly smooth, and still pretty tight,
and the stock is pretty nice, aside from a few small dents. The metal is kind of ugly though, as it is a century import. My question is, out of curiosity, was
the reciever and bolt on these rifles ever originally blued, or were they in the white? I mean, I can't find much of any trace of blueing, but the crest is
still sharp and...

If I recall correctly, detachable sling swivel & 15" cleaning rod for a 1908 are the same used in the German Gew 98. Won't be accurate but
otherwise aesthetically correct for a shooting rifle. You can also find such parts on gunbroker.com. , ebay and Numrich
Receiver and bolt, along with few other small parts were originally in the white.

Folks, I know i posted this forever ago, but I wanted to correct myself. I said that my 1908 wasnt a DWM, but like an idiot I didn't realize that
"Deutsche Waffen Munitionsfabriken Berlin," which is what mine is stamped, was the same thing as DWM Berlin. I never realized that DWM stood for
Deutsche Waffen Munitionsfabriken, as the only other German made mauser I own is a 1903 Turk. Sorry for my ignorance. Anyway, thanks again.

wow, that one looks like a new one. I wish mine was that nice looking But nah, it isn't a DWM or oberndorf, it actually has the exact same markings as
yours, made in berlin, but it doensn't look as nice. And no, there is virtually no pitting, other than a little in the bore, just discoloration and
considerable blueing wear. I did get the chance to shoot it this weekend when I was home from school, and it did pretty good...

Here's a link to some photos of mine which I got from Springfield Sporters about 11 years ago. It's in pretty decent condition. http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/5980168

I figured they must be, but I wasn't sure, I tore it down to clean the gunk out of it today and I couldn't see any traces of blueing anywhere on the
action, just on the bottom metal, ejector box, and the barrel/sights. I appreciate the verification though, I may take it and lightly polish some areas where
it is really dark.
