Man your good!
I screwed up three time cutting it to size
and trying to get the grain to work.
Finely use a old piece of Mauser stock to finish it.
I'm not very good with wood.
Almost didn't post pictures - But I think they turned
out better than the stock.

Bummer about the staples. You could remove the staples and fill with Accraglass mixed with sawdust. Won't look original. You could also cut out the area around the staples and graft in a piece of wood, would appear to be an arsenal repair. I do have some original stock wood I'd send you for the postage.

Not in real bad shape but the stock had three staples in the wrist.
