I'm from France, and I'm pleased to see that you like the MAS 45. I own one, shoot with a few others, and indeed it's a nice gun, in competitions it's often the winner's gun.

Feeding and ejections problems may be quite common, it's depend of the ammo. I found myself my gun works smoothly with Geco Rifle.

tac40, just keep a notebook on the settings on the rear sight for your ammo. That's what I do. Simpler than trying to match ammo to settings. The settings were derived for WW2 ammo and who's to tell how German WW2 ammo was loaded.

I have had mine for about 2 years. I has eaten everything fed to it, but I havent found anything that regulates with the back sight settings. It is an accurate rifle and goes to the range everytime. It is a neat way to practice the use of military peep sights and two stage triggers without breaking the bank with ammo expenditures.

Numrich Arms has mags for them at about $15 a pop + shipping.

Thanks for the info. The gun has a scope on it and shoot pretty well. I have only been to the range once with it so I will reserve judgement on just how good it is.
HoosierDaddy is your comment a question? Vintage VW bugs (beetles) were all air-cooled engines. Radiators don't exist; just like some gun parts. I lived in Evansville for 3 years; wife was born there and we still go back for visits. Great town.

Try contacting Roy Bird in McConnenells, SC (803-684-1212). Roy used to mnake sporting rifles from these MAS45s. He still has some left as parts rifles. I purchased a complete rear sight leaf assembly from him for $50 shipped.

No sir I don't. I'm afraid your only hope is to have a machinist to build you a mount to fit onto the receiver and scope it. You can utilize the two screw holes there or if the original was brazed on silver solder it on.

I just recently got a MAS 45 rifle. A friend owed me money and this is an interest payment. It is missing the original sights and the extractor spring seems weak. Does anyony know where to find parts. I realize this might be like looking for vintage VW radiators but I gotta try.

The number on the rifle is F192XX, it is stamped MAS Mod. 45 on reciever, but has a Mauser buttplate. Also the "F" in the serial number is a block "F", not the script (curvy) "F" I have seen on some of the others. Any info on the breakdown of the numbers would be greatly appreciated. As a side note, I have decided to leave the sights alone. The peep sights are extremely accurate, the problem is my eyes. I was very surprised that the elevation markings were...

If your rear ramp sight is screwed on you can remove it and have a machinist make you a mount that will fit onto the receiver and attach with screws. No permanent modification. Some were either welded to the receiver or permanantly attached so you'd have to alter the rifle to do it which is a NO NO here to discuss it.

I wouldn't call them rare but they certainly are historical artifacts from the post war period and deserve their place in history.

You certainly can modify your MAS-45, but if you do, that will whack the value. Yours, esp. with the mixed mas/mauser parts and original condition, could sell right now for $350-550. Add a scope and losing the hood etc., it might be a struggle to get $300. Financially, it would be better to modify something less collectible.

What is the approx serial number on your rifle? I wonder if it is in the lower range given the use of the mauser buttplate.

I did quite a bit of research before going to the auction. Oddly enough the rifle has the MAS stamp on the reciever (no mauser stamp), but has a mauser buttplate. Guess they had extras from the mauser factory. Rifle had never been fired, but that changed awfully quick. It would be nice to mount a low power scope on it, but it looks nearly impossible without modification. So, I guess I'll have to live with the iron sights (the front sight hood seems to hurt more than help, but I...

I saw on a poorly advertised auction bill several rifles. They were described as :
"French 22lr trainer"
and
"30a 30-06"
I did some research and determined that the trainer must have been a MAS 45 and sure enough it was. Personally before yesterday I had never heard of the thing, but read that it was somewhat rare, and fairly accurate. Turns out this thing had never even been fired, was still slathered in cosmoline, and came with 3 mags. Perfect...
