There's more to converting a Lee-Enfield to .308 Win than just a barrel. You need to modify the extractor and the mag.
Ishapores were not converted No. 1's. They were made from scratch.
It really is better to find a No. 2A Mk III.

Once you have found the parts, you will need a good gunsmith to do the work, especially the rebarreling work. It can add up...

If I recall correctly, Sterling Armament produced .308/7.62 mm NATO conversion kits for the UK and Commonwealth forces in the late 1950's - early 1960's. It was to be a stop gap effort designed to alleviate the time between developing, testing, & fielding a self-loading rifle by converting No. 4 rifles from the vast stocks of WWII & post WW II No. 4's.

Periodically, such kits come up for sale. But the Sterling kits are...

No sense trying to re-invent the wheel here.

You just need one of these; I seriously doubt anything you could cobble together with parts from EBay would be any improvement.

Besides, the list of things that you could accomplish with a 7.62x51 #4 that couldn't be done using .303 would be extremely short.

The goal was to "build" with a new barrel/bolthead/mag etc and make an equiv. to really clean No4 Mk1* but with a tight chamber and minimal headspace that could be made to shoot sub MOA....

Are barrels and the other bits still made ? could one of the custom barrel houses do it ?

do the parts show up on ebay ?

Why not just find a 2A1, and don't fire full factory loads in it. Be cheaper.skd

I've accumulated a great collection of enfields but have a real desire to convert one to 308.

Are parts available from time to time on ebay or anywhere else or is this a pipe dream ?
