I just read an article that claims the rifle used in the recent N.Y. museum killing was a Winchester Model 6, a rifle I know nothing about. A quick google
shows a heavy hex barreled pump gun and I am curious about what looks to be a pretty nice firearm; what can you tell me about this .22 and that barrel? How
does a rifle this old compare to the average Marlin, Savage or Remington available today? Eli

The problem with both models is corrosive primers was in use for much of their manufacturing lifetime and that corroded most of the bores. I have an 1890 and a
1906 and both have bad bores. They shoot fine but are not tack drivers. Both are all original though so I'm not relining or switching barrels. If I want to
drive tacks I'll grab the Kimber, Remington 541S, or Winchester 52B.

Either the 1890 or 1906 are adequate for plinking provided you find one with a good bore. If you just like a pump, you'd probably be better off with one
of the brazilian made copies. At least you'll get a good bore and it will be a whole lot cheaper than an excellent condition 1890 or 1906.

Its a model 06 as its stamped on the rifle. I have one that was my great grandfathers. Due to a couple numbers on it, it was either made in 1916 or 1925. If I
can get a smith to ream the chamber (looks like someone gouged it trying to get brass out) it would be shootable again. The most interesting thing about it
however is the craftmanship. You can see the file marks inside the action(which is like butter even now) prefectly square and smooth. Every part internally was
hand fit apparently....
