can restore the metal to a patinated finish with speckling and pitting. The wood is in fairly good condition, only missing the hand guard. BTW it&#39;s a 1909
Peruvian which I haven&#39;t bought yet. Part of a two-fer with a 1909 Argentine in a similar rusty state. I have some pictures of the Argintine which I&#39;ll

You might try this before the steel wool. While others have good luck with steel wool, I avoid it like the plague.

I think I may have mentioned this before in another thread, but if you go to your local super market, they will have Scotchbrite stainless steel scrubbing
pads. Be careful here as there are several grades and the course stuff is to be avoided. The correct pad looks like a bunch of very fine stainless steel

			<description><![CDATA[ Totally dis-assemble. Clean all that powdery looking crap off of it with a toothbrush and WD 40, which has penetrating quality. Let the WD 40 soak in first.
Wipe clean. Then, cover the parts with some oil - gun oil OK, but it isn&#39;t critical. Then lightly brush over the oiled surface with 0000 steel wool. When
the pad gets dirty go to a clean one. Purists would say use bronze wool but you&#39;ll have to get this from Brownells. Bronze is softer than steel. Don&#39;t
rub to such an extent... ]]></description>
