When I bought my 1891 Argentine he had 3 boxes of ammo. 2 Norma factory and another box.

I went ahead and got them, $18 a box.

I have fired only 2 rounds of the Norma and none of the other.

The Norma seems a little hot. My question is, Would it be safe to down load this ammo and reduce by about 2 grains and use the existing powder?

Or should I just discard the powder and use one of what I have that is listed in the manual?

The other box has made in the U.S.A. but no company name. Custom...

Both my Norma and the other stuff is 180 gr.bullet.
I tried one round reduced by 4 grains and the case came out looking good.

The other I just pulled the bullet and reseated with out a crimp, it looks O.K.also.

I even found a box of factory 308 that was too hot. Did the same thing, pulled the bullets and re seated with out a crimp.
Now its O.K. It was just a shade from being a compressed load with in consistent crimps. Some took 15 whacks to break the bullet...

Down loading sounds like a good idea. You might want to try some Privi Partisan ammo in 7.65 Arg. My 1891 loves it, groups 2 inches at 200 yards and is an
excellent source of reloadable brass. DM

Second the reduced-charge recommendation. I had a box of the early 7.65 that pushed a 150-grainer over 3000 ft/sec (NRA chronoed some when it was current, and
it is a legitimate number). Even given the long barrel that's fast, and it had to come from pressure. It's at least as fast as Turkish 8mm, but with a
smaller case and bullet with a higher sectional density. Not only that, but the early Norma cases were a bit soft. I got some nice extractor slot marks on the
case heads. Loaded...

Not only would downloading the Norma ammo and reducing the charge be safe, but it would be much safer than shooting it as is. If it were me, I would reduce by
about three grains. Most 7.65 ammo is loaded for the 1909 model. The 1891 is a small ring receiver and should be shot with lighter loads. The other ammo you
have sounds like it is made with Lake City 30-06 cases that have been reformed to 7,65X54. Nothing wrong with that. they should be excellent cases. I would
discard the powder and...
