In the early '90's I had a Phillipino Doctor who was a small boy during the Japanese occupation. His office was in his very large house. All my appointments seemed to be the last one of the day. We would quickly finish the check up, RX renewal, etc. and talk guns. He would show me his latest find. Many Samari swords and Japanese pieces. Several knives he hid in the jungle for his Father "Till it was time." Amazing stories of the occupation and "When it was time."...

he used to have a few pistols (now only one?) and was a reloader to boot! (not anymore though).

That is my answer too! I "used to" own a few firearms and dabbled in reloading a while back....
Come to think of it, I know of a lot of people who used to own firearms and had ammo but don't anymore.

Supposedly, 60 million gun owners represents a serious underestimate that is intentionally used by the media to minimize our actual strength of numbers. Just think of how many gun owners you know who would never admit that they did, if officially queried. I even know a few liberals who own a couple of guns for home protection and survival type situations, and I know they will never admit to it, to any of their other liberal friends. While I have no real way to know for sure, I'm thinking...

If every firearms owner and hunter was an NRA member it would have 60 million members. I live in a pretty liberal town but I have met plenty of "closet" gun owners and shooters. The gun shop/shooting range I go to is heavily patronized by minority group shooters, a good sign.

My exam rooms and waiting room are filled with magazines of my intrest. Shooting, flying, motorcycles, and Corvette magazines. If patients don't like it they can read their own People or Cosmo or whatever they like. I think it's good for the public to know that many of their fellow upstanding citizens are freedom loving firearms enthusiasts.

I've VERY proud of the fact that I enjoy the shooting sports and usually wear something to indicate that I'm involved be it a club hat or logo shirt or something similar. Anyone in town who knows me knows, too, that I'm a shooter/collector and many times the conversations we have might come around to what's new in that area. In thinking about it, I've NEVER run into anyone I knew who absolutely hated anything to do so with shooting. Maybe it's because I don't...

More people than you realize are into it that is a fact.

I had to go for my yearly eye exam this past April, and when my turn came, we proceeded back into the exam room and got situated for the start of my exam, when my Doctor says to me..."Are you having problems finding ammo? I can't find ANY 9mil....or .380.....ANYWHERES!!"

A few years ago, when I had my exam, I had just came from the local gunshow, and mentioned that fact to him, and things just took off...

One thing I've always done is NOT to be careful when discussing interests. I always mention I'm a gun collector, shooter, archery collector and shooter, hunter/fisherman among other things when interests are brought up or asked for on forms. Never apologize for pursuing your hobbies to anyone.

The dirty little secret is that a LOT of people you know either have their permits (where required), own firearms of some sort, or grew up around firearms in their family. I remember a couple of years back being at a formal awards dinner, seated at a table of 10 individuals. We all knew one or two of the other diners but most of us were just members of the community. Somehow the topic of firearms came up,...
