I'm looking at buying a 1895 Chileno Mauser that is described as being in "7.62". I know that there are conversions of the 95 Chileno Mauser to
7.62 x 51, but I always thought that the rear receiver bridge or the receiver ring had some notation of the new caliber--".30", "7.62",
"Nato" or some such.

I can find no notation or indication of the conversion anywhere in the pics.

I think I'd take a chance, and bid a little more than what I thought a 7.62 conversion in that nice of shape would go for. My guess is, is that it has not
been converted. Any conversions that I've ever seen were in much rougher shape. Still, it's caveat emptor...

That is supposed to be the rifle being auctioned. I believe it probably is. But I'm not interested in a 7.62 conversion. I'm wondering if the auction
house has mistakenly listed it as a "7.62", when it is in fact a 7x57.

Anyone know if those 7.62 converted 95 Chileno's have some notation of the fact stamped somewhere on the rifle?

Thanks.

IMO, I would stick with the original chambering of 7x57, it's hard to tell what has gone on with a rechamber conversion.
You'd think that if it was rechambered/rebarreled it would be marked as such.
Maybe they're using a stock photo?
