Since I've got this plethora of nice 8mm ammo and had sold my last K98 (all matching vet bring-back) I needed another old bolt to enjoy at the range. I
ended up purchasing one of the Turk T38 rifles from Allan's Armory and received it just the other day. It's in fine condition, really; a bit worn here
and there but the barrel shows strong lands and with some cleaning and tuning, this old...

Thanks 'ol Bean. Oh boy! WECSOG opportunity! (for those of you who don't know what that is: "Wile E Coyote School Of Gunsmithing". To get
points for it, however, you usually have to draw blood ! ) I'll do just that. The original screw was so thin and tiny that I'm surprised it survived
the unscrew!

Piece-o-cake. This pin WAS threaded but the end of the pin which was exposed had been peened over to the point it would not back out of the screw hole. So, I
gently ground the tip of it away and, working slowly, was able to unscrew the pin perfectly. It was also bent when I got it out which didn't help much.
After that, the barrel band slid right off as did the front band. I'm in business.
Thanks!

Thanks for that info, both.

I'm going to see if it's threaded and try the drift solution. Hopefully that'll be it. My stock has no provision for a spring steel finger like
normal K98s, so it's probably a refurb from many moons ago. The stock does show some history.

I'll post back with my results. Hopefully I won't need any parts.

Be careful of the screw in front of the rear sight.
Some of those are frozen and may break off when you try to remove it too.
Some are stripped out completely and will fall out.
As far as the front band removal, take out the cleaning rod first.
Get a screwdriver and mallet and tap the spring right at the end of the spring where it meets the band.
It should break it loose enough for the screwdriver tip to slide under/in the notch and use it to gently slide the front...
