        <![CDATA[ Perhaps the simplest type of paper musket cartridge manufactured during the Civil war would have been the Confederate Gardner cartridge. 
This had a paper tube joined directly to the base of the bullet and once
 the tail was torn off the whole affair was stuffed down the bore.&nbsp; An excellent idea hampered by poor quality.&nbsp; hollows in the cast bullets nose tended to blow out or cause the bullet to tumble. The whole thing was abandoned 
by the Confederates late in the war.&nbsp;... ]]>
