Another great day with the AK! |

Took the Romanian AK out again with some friends up in central Arizona. Brought a bunch of 2 liter soda bottles filled with colored water and an empty 5
gallon propane tank. (Probably would have been more fun it it was full, but a lot more dangerous!) Lets just say that when we were done, that tank would have
made a great outdoor lantern with a bulb inserted in the middle! The colored water bottles make a dramatic show when hit also. We were shooting at about 75
yards and the old girl got hotter than.... well, you know. One of my buddies burned his hand when he foolishly grabbed the barrel. Not a smart thing to do.
I was wearing gloves and could only rest my hand flat under the handguard, it was so hot. This was after letting her cool down a bit. Only put about 200
rounds through her, but had a great time. It is just awesome shooting this rifle, with such a storied background and classic iron curtain looks! For the
$329.00 I paid, I am a happy camper. Just my thoughts......Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

MrNagant,
Hey! I just bought a Romanian AK, first time and can't wait to try it out. In your post you mentioned that you put about 200 rounds through it and had to let it cool down, just a question. These rifles are originally configured for auto operation, is it normal that they heat up on semi-auto operation like this? I'm new to AK's and just don't know nothin about them? Thanks!! |

Ten rounds is enough to heat them up a tad. A thirty round magazine will make them very hot, especially around the gas tube. Yes this heating is normal, even
in semi-automatic mode.

I'm thinking about trying out one of the Galil style handguards. The description says it helps with the heat, but who knows. Anyone put one of these on
their AK and what were the results. They're about 40 bucks so even if it doesn't help with the heat, it at least looks cool. If that works, I'll
probably try one of the Tapco adjustable stocks just to even out the black plastic look. She sure do get hot after a 30 rounder though......

Wear a oven glove. It's alot cheaper!

My Vector came with poly furniture and I've never noticed any excessive heat through the handguard after 2 or 3 mags. The metal gets to where it could
blister you at the slightest touch, but not the furniture.
