The rear sight leaf aperture has been drilled and threaded, cockeyed, for a Lyman sight aperture. I would like to return the sight to original condition. Does anyone know where I might find a sight leaf for a Mas 45? Thanks guys, Vlad

The rifles were built initially in Germany at Mauser from 1945 to June 1946 and then the machinery was sent to St-Eteinne, France (MAS). The receivers started out with just the word Mauser in 1945 and were blued. The "Mod 45" started to appear under the Mauser banner during transition and then "Fab MAS" appeared over the banner for the MAS made rifles. The serial numbers I believe had an F prefix for MAS made rifles. They continued until 1947 and production ceased. The only way to mount a scope without permanetly altering the rifle is to unscrew the scope mount and have another mount made to screw to the receiver, a difficult task as most of these are homemade affairs. If your rear sight is welded on then you are out of luck. We don't discuss permanent alterations on these rifles here. If that is the case enjoy if for what it is and then go buy a CZ and scope it. Posts: 2 (01/23/08 03:37 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	reddogge, my rifle is stamped MAS in a cirlce with Mod 45 underneath of it. the serial # is F13789 and it says "Davidsons Greensboro NC France" on the bottom of the barrel. can you tell me the exact date or exactly where it was made with that info? i was just curious and this was really the only website i could find with any info, everything else was in french. also, my rear sight is adjustable and is screwed to the reciever with two screws but i cannot figure out how to get to the front screw off as the sight doesnt flip up enough to get a screwdriver on it. i dont wanna permanately alter the gun, it would just be nice to be able to scope it. thanks alot! Posts: 4430 (01/23/08 06:27 PM) Host Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	The marks on the receiver and F serial number lead me to believe it was made in St Etienne, France in 1946 or 1947. I can't be sure which year. I would drive out the pin that holds the leaf in place and unscrew the base. You'd have to get a sight base made up to screw onto the existing holes and cantilever over the opening in the reciever and then mount a scope mount on it. There are no commercial mounts made for it though. Unless you are a machinist or have access to one it is a difficult task. Forget about drilling and tapping the rifle. "What happened?
