What ammo shoots accurately in your Lee Enfields? |
Lead | |

I just tried some Hot Shot today and it was real poor in the accuracy department. Have any suggestions?
Thanks,

P'Bill, The ammos that on average shoot well out of all the rifles are UMC and S&B 180 gr. I use the UMC to baseline all of the rifles.

I've had good luck with UMC 174 gr FMJ in my SMLE that has a like-new 5-groove barrel, and in a Lithgow I used to own. Also got some Rem 125-gr PSP's
for 7.62X39, loaded over a starting load of 4895. These mic'd out at .309, so I switched to a .308 expander ball. Only shot a few of them, but they grouped
very well at 100 yards and the recoil was very mild.

I have a Savage No.4Mk1 that was rebuilt at Fazakerly with a new five groove barrel and it shoots very well with the Prvi Partizan 150gr.soft point ammo that
AIM is selling. I also tried the 180gr. soft point load, but it wasn't nearly as accurate as the 150gr. ammo. AIM is also selling 174gr. FMJ ammo from Prvi
that I haven't tried.
The Prvi brass also holds up very well to reloading. Tmygun

I had some PMC 174 gr that shot well out of my No4, MK1 Savage.

Anyone tried the Igman .303? I just got some from I believe Wideners, but haven't had the chance to shoot it yet.

All 5 of mine shoot well with,
Winchester Remington S&B PMC, and Hand loads. Remember, when changing loads, POI will change. My Bit dd

I have a Savage No 4 and it seems to like Hornady 123gr bullets for the rusky rifles. These shot very well in a 2 groove that seems to shoot nothing else
well.
Freedom is not free. The price is very high and it never goes on sale.

I have the same question as olgrgr, about the Igman. I have asked about it in several boards and got no reply yet. Why is this?

I've not used the Igman in the .303, but have used a couple of boxes in 6.5x55. The first box was fairly accurate and the second one was like a shotgun
group. It is hard to reload because of the small primer hole. The best ammo I have used is the Greek HXP and the SA, but they are harder to find now.

S&B FMJ has been pretty much all I have used in mine. With the loose nut behind the trigger I get 3 inch groups with the "loose nut" flyer taking
it out to 4 inches most times.

South African ammo is pretty darn good but I only have about 50rds left.
I have few 100 rds of Canadian surplus ammo and a few boxes of WWll Winchester which shoot about the best. For hunting I found Winchester CXP3 180gr is consistantly accurate too...not to mention they hit like Thors hammer.

S&B shoots extremely well in my No 4 mk 1.
