And is there a plug in the magazine tube that can be removed in order to add more shells?
Thanks.

How many shotgun shells can the Norinco 1897 TrenchGun magazine tube hold as I have heard 5, 6 and even 7 (and that is not including one in the chamber)?
And is there a plug in the magazine tube that can be removed in order to add more shells? Thanks. |

I don't know about a plug, but you should be able to load 5+1 2-3/4" shells if it is similar to a Winchester M-97.
If you use those Mexican mini-shells, you can probably get 7 or so rounds in there. Getting them to feed properly might be another issue unto itself though. |

I just bought a TTN Model 1897 Old West riotgun from AIM. A little different from th Norinco 1897 shotguns I've seen, yet I think it's just a newer
generation of the Norinco(doesn't say Norinco or China on it anywhere, but has a triangle 26 like a Norinco SKS). The manual says it will hold 5, however
mine will easily hold 6 Winchester AA shells.
Hmm.. just noted I replied to a topic thats 18 months old! |

Seems like we need a little more activity on this forum!
Still, it never hurts. That might be just what someone was needing. Makes you wonder though. Have the Chinese moved factory /26\ or have we revised the imported firearms/products marking regulations???

I think as long as it contains enough lead to poison a small village, it is OK.
On a more serious note: I think there are exceptions to the rule regarding what can and can't be brought in from there.

In regards to the shell capacity of a Model 1897 clone, I think I shall stick to the manuals stated capacity of 5 shells.
That is, unless I lose count, and end up with 6, trying to stuff in the seventh shell(which won't go!). Doubt it would be an issue, however I've had Chinese springs crap out before, and don't need to overtax my new Chinese mag spring! I like my new Winchester clone shotgun a bunch. Seems to be a fairly decent peice of machinery for $200. |

If it's like the Winchester 1897, using 2 3/4" shells it should hold 5 in the magazine and one in the chamber (5+1), which was one of Winchester's
selling points as far back as the model 1893, the 97's predecessor.

How is the quality of the Norinco gun? I've always wanted a '97 Trench gun, but after checking out the prices of an original I see that it is totally
out of the ball park for me. They cost more than a vacation to Turkey or Europe. Of course unlike a vacation you can sell it for a profit.
Anyway, how about that Norinco? Good buy? Eric
