I have a 6.5x55 Mauser with the Husqvarna Vapfenfabriks Antiebolag markings. I can't see the date because a spacer for a scope mount was placed over it. The serial number is 704041, barrel length is 20". The barrel seemed to have been chopped behind the front sight. Rear sight was removed. The bolt handle was turned down and a modern safety was installed. Stock was also cut and refinished. Whoever did the work did good job. It's a great shooter and just wondering what exactly this rifle is. Great website. Thanks for any help. Clint

This was the lowest production year for Husqvarna m/38's. Your rifle "was" very collectable and most likely valued in the 400.00 to 800.00 USD range. The guy who done the "good job" took a very collectable and valuable rifle and turned it into a 100.00 USD shooter grade rifle that has "NO" collector value or interest. This site is for collector firearms in their correct unaltered condition which yours has lost. I hope you didn't spend too much on it but someone could have sold that rifle and bought two Bamby slayers. Please don't post anymore info on this rifle...Jim

Here you have a brand new guy, just trying to get some info, and you basically "run him off"! Why? He didn't do it to the rifle.... You had a prime opprtunity to educate this man on what fine weapons Swedes are (unbubb'd), but instead you leave him with a bad taste in his mouth about this forum. Remember when you knew nothing? I can bet the guy that educated YOU was a lot more tolerant. usrifle

Posts: 9 (03/16/08 04:33 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	usrifle, I don't think I did anything of the sort. 1st, I answered the gentlemans question about what year it was made. 2nd, I told him that at one time it was a rare and collectable rifle. 3rd, I advised him that the guy who modified it damaged it beyond repair as a collector piece. 4th The previous owner had taken a valuable rifle and turned it into a cheap Bambi slayer. 5th, I consoled him and wished that he didn't spend too much on it and not to have incured a large monetary loss on his purchase. Lastly, I asked him pleasantly not to post anymore info on the rifle because it was against forum rules. The only thing I didn't do was to link him to bear8mm forum, where this type of topic is OK, which I did mean to do. You must also understand that sometimes things aren't as plain as they would appear. If you look at my screen name you will see that it has changed slightly because Yuku wouldn't let me sign in under my other name and it wouldn't accept my e-mail address. This made it impossable to access my Host and Moderator controls and I had to re-register under another name because the only thing that Yuku would recognize was that MP78 had already been used. So maybe I was slightly distracted because I had just gone through this proccess just so I could give the guy an accurate answer to his query. I think you will find out that through the years I've been very polite because I didn't like how some other Hosts and Moderators flamed people on their forums. Lastly on this note, I don't think Clint was offended because his return post doesn't reflect it. The only thing I asked him was not to post on this particular rifle any more. I never said he wasn't welcome to ask or talk about other things...Jim

Jim is right, you do have a 1944 produced Swede. The round is gentle on the shoulder and deadly to animals. Even though we do not discuss the permanent alteration of military firearms on this forum, a Swede, even if altered, is still one of the nicest, most accurate mauser rifles produced. We will be happy to answer any questions about any other Curio and Relic rifles you may have as there is a ton of knowledge in the members here. Please take a look at the available forums and you will see there are a ton of bargians out there for under $200 (Mosin anyone? How about a Nagant revolver? What an interesting piece of history that thing is.). Be fore warned, colleting militray arms is addicting. Holding and shootign a piece of unaltered history is a rush. Please read all the rules to the forum and feel free to ask questions. Thanks, Freedom is not free. The price is very high and it never goes on sale.
