What's Your Longest and Shortest Milsurp Bolt Action? |
Lead | |
|
Japanese type 38 at 50" for my longest and 36" for my shortest, a Carcano carbine. That must have been a heck of a long rifle for a WWII Japenese
soldier to wield. The Carcano is almost toy like.

Your longest and shortest are exactly the same as mine, Cisco. I think that my Turk 38 MAY be a bit longer than the 38 though. Anyway they are similar.

I'm gonna have to measure my 96 Swede when I get home. I think it's longer than the '95 Chilean or 91/30 Mosin.
Shortest is a M30 Persian Carbine. I don't remember what it measures either. ETA-- Swede '96 is longest in my collection, but I was wrong about the shortest. The M1 Carbine is about 36", the M30 Persian is 37 7/8".

Long and Short of It | ||

Measurements taken from floor to muzzle crown or otherwise as noted, with rifles standing buttplate to hard floor surface, barrels at 90 degree vertical to
floor. Longest are Swiss Vetterli M.78 (51 7/8 inches without bayonet), and Chatellerault Mosin-Nagant M91 (51 1/2 inches without bayonet, 68 1/4 inches with
bayonet). Shortest is Steyr M95/34 (39 1/2 inches). I had a cute little Carcano M38 carbine but it was very slightly sporterized so I sold it.

Skeyed, if you mean a Persian Mauser M98/29, I have one of those and love it, but my Vetterli and my Chatellerault refer to her as "shorty." Even
with that incredible pigsticker bayonet.

Thanks for correcting me.
Must have been thinking Mosin Country. ![]() skd

I would say without measuring: Long, M91 Mosin or M95 Austrian LR. Short, I think M95 Austrian carbine. Maybe the Mosin M44 or 38 are shorter.

Not sure of OAL but longest is Turk 1903 with 29" barrel in 8x57 and shortest is Columbian 98 Carbine with 16" barrel in 30/06 (not sure of correct
model designation).

I have not pulled them out to measure, but I would guess my Model 91 (not 91/30) Mosin-Nagant is the longest, and my 1891 Argentine Engineers Carbine is the
shortest.

Neat subject. Any excuse to open the safe is OK with me. Here's mine a CZ BRNO 98/22 and an Argentine 1891 Carbine.

pointiv, I am envious of that Argentine Carbine! I have two 98/22's I love them them, and relativly inexpensive too.

Thanks Cisco, It is a sweet shooter and an elegant rifle. You pick it up and it feels so "handy".

I'm not sure on my longest (POSSIBLY one of my Gewehr 88's), but my shortest would be a Hungarian Mosin-Nagant M44 Carbine, at least if you fold back
the bayonet.

Shortest? UNFIRED (by me) Chinese M44.
Longest? Austrian Kropecheck 1886 FUNKY caliber! with bayonet and scabbord (also unfired.....doubt I'll EVER find one of those rounds!)
*Geeze*: I have a lot of unfired (by me) guns! Maybe this week I'll do something about that as I want to get some "weekday range time in" and have an excuse to go over town and put in some more applications. GREG |

Longest is my Swiss G1911, and my shortest is my M1 Carbine.

I may have to change my 'shortest' selection. Is the Carbine shorter than a Carcano 38?

No cheating, the M1 carbine isn't a bolt action
