Help in Identifying the stock on potential M91/59 purchase
|
Sorry no pic's but the stock on the rifle I'm interested in does not have an M44 bayonet groove along the front right side of the stock. All the
#'s on the receiver/buttplate/mag/bolt are stamped and matching, and the finish on the metal and the stock looks great. The stock does not appear to be a
refinish/rearsenal as there is no evidence of refurb marks on the stock or any evidence of being rebuilt at the butt. Izzy 1943 receiver. Crown is new and
the rifling looks great although a bit frosted. Not counterbored.
Does that make it a purpose-made stock? They want $129 for it. Greensngravy |

I don't know, but I would buy it and bring it home then you can ask all the questions you desire. But first make sure it is in your ownership. Hate to see
you get all worked up about it and then go to the store and only find that you put off too long and someone else is now the lucky owner of a fine piece of
history.

I decided against buying the M91/59 for a few reasons. The first being that the rifle, while nice in almost every respect for its vintage ('43 Izzy) had
some pretty rough grind marks alongside the receiver adjacent to the bolt body which had been blued-over. The second is that I guess I really wanted another
Tula with a beech stock that I could keep completely original. I already have a beech Tula that is pretty much cherry with the exception of some slight
frosting in the barrel. They did have a very clean lam'd M91/30 for $135. Probably a good shooter. I just don't know what the real value of this one
is and Dunham's has had these in stock since forever so I don't need to rush into it.
Thanks for replying. Greensngravy |

My two Mosin Nagants. The Finnish M-39 is a SAKO as issued in 1943, while my 91/59 was originally a 1943 Izzy.

Just picked up my first MN rifle today. Thought I'd share some pics. I have yet to learn what all the markings mean... but I'm working on it!

M91/59 w/hex izzy '29 receiver

This one's not for sale price ($119) yet but looks real nice: stamped matching numbers, good bore, nice wood and metal finish.
Is this a rare find with such an old receiver? It's at a local Dunham's right now for $250, but she should come down in price in the next week or so. Thanks, Scott
