wanting to order a Swiss K-31...need a little help |
Lead | |
|
I am wanting to order a K-31 Schmidt Rubin rifle. I have looked at a couple of online wholesalers (AIM, J&G Sales, & Samco), but can't decide who
is the best one to order from. It looks like at one time Samco had some of these rifles that were available in excellent condition, but it looks like very good
is the best available now. First, does anyone know if anyone has any K-31's that are available that are in excellent condition? Second, does anyone know if
there is going to be anymore K-31's imported in the very near future? Most of the websites say "no more are going to be available", but usually
they seem to get some more in at about the time that they sell the first batch out. Does anyone know if this is still the case? I will be willing to wait for a
new batch to come in if it means that I will be able to get a rifle in better condition. And last, does anyone know of any other wholesalers that have the K-31
rifles in stock at a reasonable cost?

Hi,
I don't have a FFL, but the suppliers you list seem to have gotten good remarks from most people. I've ordered ammo from AIM and was satisfied with their service. Personally, I don't think more K31's are to be had. They didn't make 10 million like the Russians did the Mosin. I think less than 900,000 K31's were made. On the other hand, I don't think the prices are going to increase radically either. And as far as condition goes, the old Swiss beaver may have gotten to a lot of stocks, but the metal and the bores are still very good. Good Luck! dalee |

I have had two (and still have one). Don't be put off by a less-than-pretty stock. I had one with a stock that looked terrible, but shot beautifully and
very accurately. Even though the stock and bluing may not look that great, chances are you'll get a GOOD gun. The guns were never used in combat, but may
have gotten bumped around in vehicles and other places. As a general rule, the Swiss were careful to keep the guns cleaned and maintained.
If you can, grab one with a Walnut stock. They were the early ones and there aren't that many of them. Mine is a 1940, has a super shiney bore, and shoots great. |

I've bought several guns, including a k31, all very good to excellent/special select from AIM and I'm happy with what they sent. They were all as
described or better and they are good shooters.
I also have bought from Allans Armory and was very pleased as well. I recommend you check with these two dealers first. The Beechwood k31 I bought has near perfect metal and bore and the butt-stock was 'beaver chewed' as previously mentioned but cleaned-up well. If I bought a second Swiss, it would be a Walnut stocked rifle, 'just because.' Good luck.

I think less than 900,000 K31's were made.
I believe the number manufactured was between five and six hundred thousand. Who knows how many actually were imported here. Carl |

Might want to try Classic Arms. Ask for Ben and he will hook you up. Mine was really nice. |

Empire Arms will find an exceptional one for you, but you pay for what you get =+)
i have a nice Walnut stocked K31 I bought from Big 5 - I put it on Layaway - When I eventually brought it home, I discovered a crack through the wrist area of the stock running length wise through the stock - Fixed it with runny superglue, but was disappointed because the rifle did not have the crack before....I am guessing someone dropped it....The rifle is very accurate. Try FGS, Inc for Swiss K31 | ||
|
I just got my K31 in last week from FGS, Inc. and it has nice markings and great bluing. After I cleaned up the bore with some brake free I couldn't
believe the condition of it. Sure the stock is beaver chewed but I can see the rifling perfectly and what a shine. I only paid $124.50 plus shipping and
handling. But I believe they already went up in price.

Almost all of the K31s I've looked at have very good/excellent metal. They've all had matching SNs and excellent bores. I bought 1 last year and went back to the shop and bought the last one my dealer had. I paid $169 each. My dealer marks up most of the milsurp rifles $40 which is very reasonable considering what other dealers here charge. I wouldn't be too concerned by the stock condition if it's solid. The walnut stocks I've seen have all been better than the beechwood. I have 4 now and 2 have walnut stocks and they are pretty beat up they don't have the water damage near the butt of the stock. I just scrub the stock with a Scotch Brite green pad and dishwashing liquid to get rid of dirt and grease and apply 3 coats of BLO. There are excellent K31s available but they are getting expensive. Gunbroker always has K31s listed. I haven't bought a K31 off Gunbroker but I have bought 2 Swedish and 2 Yugo Mausers there and have been happy with the condition of all of them. Good luck

Just got mine today. Some may say I gave too much. But I could hold it and look at it, took the bolt out to look through the bore.
Almost pristine. all matching #'s except the mag. It looks new. Mine had the tag under the but plate. Walnut stock. And just think, some one gave me a bayo, but it is bent a little where it slips on. now all I need is a sling and a frog. Hope you find what your looking for. skd

I have purchased from both Classic Arms and Allan's Armory and have been very satisfied with both, My purchases from Allen were for M 96 Swedes but I
must say his descriptions are right on.

I have owned several, probably around 8. I cleaned up and test fired all of them for accuracy. The older walnut stocked rifles were absolutely beautiful but,
the newer beech stocked rifles shot better. Remember, this was my experience. I bought all of mine locally as well as from AIM and Military Gun Supply.
Allan's Armory probably would be the best if you want to see what you are getting before hand. He has an excellent reputation and I wouldn't hesitate
to buy from him.

Just to add to the heap:
I got mine from Samco. They are pretty slow at filling orders, but worth the wait. Like everyone else, mine had a well beaten stock and nearly flawless metal. It was like a brand new barrelled action was dropped into a used stock! I took it to the range and it performed much better than I thought it would. Here's a link to a thread from a year ago, with some pics of mine and PBill's range results: http://parallaxscurioandrelicfirearmsforums.yuku.com/topic/4616 They're pricey, but the accuracy makes it a bargain. You won't be disappointed. Michael |

Hi, I am a collector (35 years) if you can afford it there is a fellow who has sold me some minty old rifles , His name is Mike Wamsher. Google his name and
follow the link. He should be able to help you aquire a fine example. The price may scare you, however, once you get your hands on it ,you will be happy. Most
of the line rifles where in use since the 1930's however the swiss army is mainly militia with a small core of highly trained professional soldiers. If you
can find a really nice example, buy it. Your money will be well spent because these rifles are rare compared to swedish or german mausers. If you are serious
about collecting I would recomend getting a FFL C&R collectors license that way you can order rifles and recieve them directly from a wholesaler or a
fellow licensee. It is not expensive and you only have to keep a small record of your transfers. Good luck, altcam
