Hi Folks
I recently acquired a No.4 Mk 1. However, it looks to be scrubbed or refurbished, not well, but refurbished.
Where one would normally find the identification on the receiver, it has been milled away, but one can still make out the last vestiges of lettering with a
magnifying glass. Also on the wrist there is a new marking, M/470C which seems to be the mark of one of the BSA installations over some scrubbing marks.
Why would this be? There are mismatched parts on the front sight, no serial on the barrel, or buttplate or most of the other locations one would normally find
it. The only place that has matched serials is the rear side of the bolt handle and on the wrist.
Was there a remanufacturing directive on old no. 4 Mk 1's to bring them into line with a newer standard?
Thanks for any information!
