I just came back from and online visit to the North State Shooting Club and they had a survey question posted from a USA Today survey. The question was
"Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?" and the survey options were Yes, No, Undecided. it can be found at this
URL, http://www.ncrpa.org/ Here are the disturbing survey results:
Yes - 97%, No - 2%, and Undecided - 1%.
With a pretty good understanding of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights I answered the question correctly; No, the Bill of Rights does not "give"
individuals the right to keep and bear arms. The whole premis of the US Constitution is that a free people are granting, in writing, a limited amount of
control over our freedoms to the United States Government. In this country the government derives its power from the will of the people it has no power or
authority to grant us any rights - these were granted to all people by God.
Now, I know what the USA Today poll was trying to ask and I understand why they worded the question the way they did but how can 97% of respondents get this
fundamental view of the Constitution and our relationship to government so wrong and only 2% get it right?
