Charlin? |
Lead | |
|
I posted this on the French Rifles forum but got nothing. Perhaps someone here will know something about them. At the Houston gun show last month i saw a
Charlin. It's a knock-off of the Darne, with the same toggle action although the configuration of the parts appears a little different. This one had St
Etienne proofs and was in 12 gauge. I didn't take the barrels off to check the chamber length. Does anyone know anything about the Charlin?

Information for CHARLIN RIFLE | ||
|
For translate , u can use google. I'm from France , and it's a great information about the CHARLIN RIFLE (rare model) Made around 1900 to 1968 :
I find this information on a french forum. Thanks, Mr. Moon. Frenchmen wince when I speak their language, but I can read it OK. Interesting details in that post. The few Charlins I have seen were most
certainly "très bon fusils de chasse". What is the URL of that forum? I found a lot of information on www.dournetusa.com/forum since I posted last year.

I just saw this thread and realize it is over a year old.
Now for a little bit of my limited knowledge. They are as you know are both sliding breech guns. The major difference is in the lockup. The Darne has a round rodlike extension extending reward from the upper barrel assembly. On the bottom side of that assembly is a hole. When the sliding breech reaches its forward motion and the toggle is pressed down a lug moves up and into this hole locking the barrels and sliding breech. The Darne is therefore capable of some large caliber dangerous game cartrige loadins. The Charlin locks by means of an over the top toggle camming motion with no barrel breech lockup like the Darne and is not nearly as strong. The breech of the Charlin rides on spring loaded ball bearings and is incredibely smooth. I am lucky enough to have one of each and still do not know much. Go to the doublegunshop.com or the new site,gournetusa.com , the latter of which is sponsered by the resident US Darne expert. There are some fantastic pictures of some Charlin's posted by a gentleman from France there.
