Posts: 3 (07/06/08 03:30 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None hey guys...im new to mosins and this site, but i love both! got my m44 from sog the other day....barrel looks about perfect with minimal cleaning...no counterbore, no repairs to stock.... its also been completely force matched, and is thoroughly soaked in cosmoline, lol i took it to the range with some czech silvertip, was getting 2 inch groups at 50 yds, which i dont think is too bad, considering my first time firing the beast! im really happy with it! i love most all milsurp bolts, but i may need a few more of these!! my trigger seems pretty good, LOTS of travel, but a decent letoff, im glad it has all the travel to the trigger, as the safety is A BEAR!

Happy to have you around. Sounds like you got a nice beast there, and that's fine shooting on your part(s). Any bolt sticking with the Silvertip? My buddy just received an AMI M44 yesterday and we took her out. 1945, nice refurb but with a counterbore and a well done small stock repair, Stuck like glue on ST, and otherwise shot well. I discovered, to my chagrin, that even a so called 'C&R expert' can mix up .303 Brit for 7.62 X 54R. Oh. That explains why it doesn't chamber...

Posts: 4 (07/06/08 04:25 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	thanks for the welcome.....maybe 1/3 of the silvertips required me to slap the bolt open with my upturned hand....i cycle it this way all the timenow, its "russian" to me, if that makes sense!! the m44 cycled flawless this way....apparently, i need to buy the rest of the silvertips from my local gunshop!! while im keeping this gun all original....i think it could use a refinish....it looks as tho the stock was sanded with a belt sander.....the laminate would look beautiful smoothed out......is this ethical, considering having what i assume is a rearsenal stock finish? i was thinking of linseed oil, or tung.....

You can get the Zinsser orange and go over the stock. It will melt the existing shellac and smooth out the finish. Many have done this to save a flaking original finish. Good luck.

I used a simple spray can. go lightly and the finish will turn out great. It's also very easy to touch up in the future if you need to. Finally, it seals th oil/cosomoline in the wood so it does not 'bleed'.
