Posts: 2 (07/18/08 10:24 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None Hello all, I believe I have identified the bayonet that I picked up at my local pawn shop. The bayonet's blade (approximately 9 3/4 inches) and overall length ( 15 1/16 inches) appears to match up with the vz23a short version. It is marked CSZ with a small "v" type mark directly above the C on one side of the blade, and E (Lions symbol) 23 on the other side. The pommel of the bayonet has 7759 imprinted on it. The scabbard (10 9/16 inches) that came with it, the only marking I could find is a number on frog stud - 253882. I would appreciate any directions as to where I might find more information about these two, seemingly mismatched items. I can't attach any photos yet as I haven't figured out to create a link to the photobucket I have linked to my account here.

I can certainly now see where I made my mistake in identification. I have found 2 additional marks on the scabbard and will try and get photos. On the top of the scabbard throat is a 3 or possibly and 8; and on the opposite side of the frog stud on the scabbard is what appears to be a triangle with a slanted "B" or "8" on the left side and a palm tree or large "T" in the middle - can't make out anything on the inside right of the triangle. Thanks to your sight and the additional sites I have found through you I'm hooked. Thank you.

I also believe, that you do have a VZ23, but length af blade is difficult to judge from your pics. If blade is 250 mm, then it is a VZ23. VZ24 has longer blade by 299 mm. Sorry Carl! /Amsfelder

Posts: 897 (07/20/08 07:24 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	No problems Amsfelder I am not always right and did not examine the scababrd fully, and assumed (you know what that means) it was german as the converted jugo ones are less than common, although i sis wonder as it woudl then have to have been a 14 or similar scababrd which is hardly common either. at 11" the blade woudl have to have been shorted to be the 24, but the 23's are so uncommon you can see why I said 24. THe 24's can be routinly found with the 23 dates so I ignore that in ID'ing. Also the 5th straight 70+ hour week is befuddling my brain LOL - or is it senility :-( Carl www.old-smithy.info

Hopefully this will provide some more clear information. Thank you again for all the direction and information.

The triangel mark om scabbard is BT3 in triangel which is Kragujevac arsenal. Turkey rearmed with Czech M98/22 in late twenties. The M98/22 used the VZ23. /Amsfelder
