M96 Swede value |
Lead | |
|
A buddy of a buddy has a M96 Swede for sale for $250. It is supposed to be in pristine condition. Now if it really is I think $250 is a great price. But I
don't know the year or maker because this guy is in Africa. Any ideas on the possible value of a great condition M96? Thanks in advance.

With prices ever on the climb, any Swede in such condition would be well worth $250. The thing could likely go for $400 or more online if it's really
nice.
But some questions: 1). How shiney is the bore? Are the groves and lands sharp and distinct? 2). How is the stock disc marked? 3). What is the condition of the muzzle? 4). Is it a threaded muzzle? 5). Any sanding of the stock or other "bubba work"? 6). Is it all matching? 7). How is the blueing? Just a few things to apply all rifles but some solely to the Swedes. Also, is this a short rifle or a longer one? GREG |

Greetings all. Timely topic. I too have a 96 I'm trying to put a price on. I used to frequent this site years ago, but have let my interest in C&R
collecting slip as I've taken on other interests (Competition Shooting). I'm going to be thinning my herd to help finance a new rifle. When I
mentioned to a co-worker that I had a Swede M96 she (Yes she) expressed interest in it. Alas, I have no idea what a fair price would be. Specs are:
Swedish M96, 6.5mm Swede, date stamp 1911, Swede manufacture (Gustave as I recall), metal at least 80% plus or better finish remaining, bright and sharp bore, drilled & tapped for diopter target sight, metal all matching but alas wood (And disc) don't (Match). Wood has usual handling marks/dings as I recall (Have her put away right now). No cracks, chips, gouges, etc. to stock. I did a quick check of the auction sites and see them listed from $300.00 (lousy condition) - $500.00 plus. That seems a bit stiff to me even though I haven't seen one for sale in years. So, any ideas what a fair price would be? Oh, told her I could throw in 100 never fired Lapua 6.5 brass and a set of (Lee?) 6.5 dies. Yep, she reloads too. Thanx. Cheers, Mark

Lapua 6.5x55 brass is selling for 63.99/100 at Midway. With dies, brass and rifle, I wouldn't take less than $300. I've seen some M96's that were
well worn going for much more than $250.

exsfdoc,
If you like the lady and want to give here a break 250.00 for a m/m'ed rifle and brass sounds about fair to me. |

Thanx guys, I appreciate it. Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of $250.00 also. Still seems high to me as I think I only paid about $100.00 for it 14
years ago.
Cheers, Mark |

If it's a good shooter, $250 is still a good price, even without the brass and dies. IMHO!

Yes, it still sounds fair for a nice shooting rifle. 300.00 with the brass and dies would still be fair. If the person in question was a shooting friend then I
might be willing to give them a break but all that is up to you...Jim
