Posts: 15730 (07/04/08 01:20 PM) Owner/operator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None I started out in the mid 60's with a Crosman V350 "Slide Action" BB rifle that cocked by pushing the barrel inward and pulling it back out. It's magazine held about 22 BB's and it was particular to Crosman's own "fully round" copper plated BBs. It would jam on the much less expensive Daisy and off brand BBs like clockwork due to the flat on those types of BBs. I still own that rifle. I progressed to the Sheridan around my 11th birthday in 1968 to the much more seriously powered Sheridan "Blue Streak" 5mm pellet rifle which when pumped 8 times was a serious short to medium range varmint and small game air gun. I'm on my second gas piston and it shoots like new even though I have probably put well over 5,000 rounds through it since I was a kid, not to mention what my son has put through it in more recent years. I've fired it with open sights and with a scout scope mounted on it with never a bad day in the field or yard with it. I have fired early (for me) Red Ryders and pump Benjamins over the years as well. I had a C02 Plainsman BB pistol, a Crosman 1377 American Classic (which I still own) and several others. I guess my life has been filled with shooting something or another on a regular basis. How about you? Wore it out and he got me another, which I stocked in wood.We lived in town so I shot that thing until I finished high school. I even experimented and made some extra high rear sights for long range shooting, and learned to lob BB's onto large targets. A bunch of us read a book on point shooting, and learned to hit aerial targets also. Fast forward through college and military service. Overseas I saw a nice air rifle in the Rod and Gun club but did not know much about them, so passed and am glad I did because everyone who picked it up, "dry"fired it, without a pellet. A few years later back in the states I got to talking to another officer in our hospital group, who had an Anschultz(sp), I started researching and purchased a Fienwerkbau 124/127 in .177 cal. which I still have. Some years later I received a little money from a deceased aunt's estate and purchased another Fienwerkbau, but a model 300 recoilless match rifle. I have not shot either in years but think about getting them out evey now and then. I also have a breakbarrel "target" pistol from Beamans, cannot remember the mfr., but have had some problems with it, having to send it back a few times for piston seals. It is very large and heavy, but fairly easy to hold and accurate although not near match grade. These are all spring piston type guns, of the highest order. I understand now there are single stroke pneumatics and compressed air models out there. The power and range of the sporter version of the Fiemwerkbau is hard to beat in another type, range and penetration are very good due to high velocity, although I realize there are some out there that now surpass it. This particular rifle was purchased new in 1975. I would like to have one of the newer guns in a larger caliber that is capable of hunting something other than squirrels or small rabbits at close range. JJK

The second was a Crosman 760, third was a Crosman M1-Carbine. My current air-rifle, and my favorite so far, is a Sheridan Silver-Streak in 5mm. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- What part of "shall not be infringed" don't you understand? It lasted a few weeks, maybe most of a summer before the spring broke, but not before a friend with his forearm in a cast asked me to see if it would pop a chunk of plaster off like plate-glass. At 15 feet I missed and the plum-sized welt on his upper arm ended my trick shooting days, before I put out any eyes. My second was a CO² .22 pellet revolver, modeled after the Colt Python. It was a great air gun and I was about 16 when I bought it with money from my job at a department store. I use to glue caps to the heads of pellets and shoot these against a wood panel for targets I set-up outside. The distance was about 50-60 feet and the gun was very accurate, with adjustable sights. My third was also a CO² pistol, single shot target model I bought about 7 years latter while spending part of the summer at my sisters' house near the beach. This place was on a channel and I was bored during the hot days as I waited to head into N. Myrtle Beach to spend the evening and early mornings partying. I also got pretty good with throwing stars and knives that summer, LOL. My fourth and current air gun is a HB17 Benjamin Sheridan I bought several years ago. Lots of fun though I don't get to use is as often as I'd like. By the time I get to somewhere safe to shot it, I can shoot .22s, etc so I take these instead. Lately I've been thinking of building a carpet trap to shoot it inside, between two rooms and the hall between. I've never owned an air rifle, though one day I'd like to have a good pump type that hits hard and is accurate, maybe a used RSW with adjustable peep sights. Must have shot it a million times and carried it a million miles. Shot trash birds,rats, and dogs that were up to no good on my grandfathers duck farm. Moved up to a Crosman #180,22 caliber pellet,CO 2. Big time struggle to keep it fed with pellets and CO2 cartridges. Was finally able to take rabbits and upland game,when I could get the drop on them. Still have them both at my moms house. Have not shot them in years,but they are priceless to me.

We needed something less noisy than a .22 or .38 and less apt to ricochet on the concrete when taking shots at stray possums, 'coons, cats and dogs on the porch. It was one of those Chinese .$25 .177 pellet rifles. It shot decent and still works today. We've branched out to other pellet rifles and pistols. If I can round them up, I'll post a picture of them all. The Polish .177 pellet pistols that Century and others were selling last October at Knob Creek are incredible little handguns. I picked up a Red Rider for my youngest a few years ago, he still shoots that one, as well as his Walther PPK style CO2 BB gun.

Posts: 3089 (07/06/08 04:24 PM) Forum Site Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I have a Benjamin Sheridan C9A series in .20 caliber, a Ruger Air Hawk with scope, a Romanian el cheapo from Century, and a Crosman Powermaster 760 I inherited from my father. I had a lever action Daisy BB gun as a kid in the '50s. When we moved to CT from NJ in early '63 it got left behind in the unheated attic space at 1 Crossley Place, Park Ridge. It may still be there for all I know although if the insulation was upgraded at some point, it was probably discovered. The Benjamin Sheridan is very accurate and powerful. It's done in a lot of winged creatures that have been trying to peck holes in the cedar siding and trim on our house. The Romanian rifle is inaccurate but that may be due to the trigger pull from hell. I've had the Ruger for less than a month and am getting used to it. I had to remount the scope because the bases weren't put on correctly. The scope was not parallel with rifle and that could be noticed by simply looking at it. It's not as accurate as I thought it would be but that could be because I'm not used to shooting with a scope. I'm going to try it without the scope and see how it goes. In spite of being made in the PRC it's well crafted from all outward appearances. I haven't done anything with the Crosman. It's bascially a smoothbore BB gun. Carl

Mostly brass construction with a brass barrel and seemingly flimsey, yet wholly adequate sights. Seems anything above three pumps gives good reliable accuracy, but I think the power curve is still climbing at twenty pumps. A truly formidable weapon easily capable of any rodent on the North American Continent. Under five pumps and it is suitable for cardboard box indoor backstops! I use old Shotgun News's or other ad-mags backing a row of poly-bottles and am able to reuse most of my pellets. Very versatile!

It even came with two scopes and a "Sheridan Intermount" scope mount designed for the BS rifle. Right now it's holding a Bushnell 4x Custom .22 scope. The thing is a serious tack driver and I use it to work on my "hold" to keep my Garand skills up to par. The trigger is very nice, too. In addition, I have an old Crossman "130" air pistol that also shoots very well. These two air rifles blow away most of the typical bb guns/rifles of similar ages as ou ca tell there's a bit more quality built into them. They're fun to share with the kids when we have holiday parties. I've got a couple of soda can hangers that we put up at 50 and within a couple of hours, all the cans are riddled with holes by even the most inexperienced shooters. Neat forum subject, Bill. I have a Daisy Red Ryder for my grandson when he is a little older. I needed something a little better to deal with the squirrels in my pears and pecans, so I have an RWS model 34 in .22cal. (5.5mm) It is handy to practice with too, with out bothering the neighbors.

I currently own an IZH-46M, Beeman R9, and a Finewerkbau 124 Deluxe. I owned an RWS 52 and an RWS 350 for a while, but sold them to concentrate on the the airguns I preferred. I've also experimented with some of the cheap Chinese rifles, but found them to be mostly junk. I currently help coach a 4-H air pistol program, so I'm spreading the love for airguns the best I can

It was lever action job, think an 1898 or such. Had a saddle ring. Not a lot of power, but had a lot of fun with that gun. I then went to a 760 but ended up trading it to a friend and eventually bought a 766. I still have it. Shot it a lot too, but it's in mint condition. Still works fine. A few years ago a bought a Benjamin. It's ok, but single shot. Finally, based on the fact I love the movie "The Chistmas Story", my wife got me a current Red Ryder. I've shot old ones and the new ones are way to plasticy. Never owned target models. The 766 is able to hit anything in the yard. Greg

Posts: 150 (07/13/08 05:56 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	At the moment I have Pistols S&W 78g (found buried in a lake bottom by a friend who gave it to me, I've restored it and it shoots great) Crosman imported Umarex Walther PPKS CO2 with blowback slide action Crosman CO2 version of the S&W Model 59 (Less sophisticated than the Walther) Gamo P23 (not a bad BB shooter but duble action only and not much use with pellets single loaded) Rifles Crosman 760 (found this one and have mounted an adult sized wooden buttstock and scope) its one of the smooth bore later versions. Very powerful and accurate for a BB gun. Crosman model 10/77 (similar in styling to the Ruger 10/22, found in junk shop in its original box for $20 and it shoots like a new one) Daisy 880 (modified by retrofitting the cast metal receiver of an old junker to replace the plastic receiver they use now) A very accurate pellet rifle, so long as you never fire steel BBs through it and damage the rifling. A 1970's remake of the Daisy Red Ryder I picked up as a wall hanger, it shoots but no power to it, all the parts are there and finish is good so I may restore it. No plastic on this version, unlike later manufactured re pros. Crosman 38C (non functional, may restore it soon if parts can be found) As for air guns I've owned or shot over the years , I'll think on it and add to the list later, but for now these stand out. My little Brother's Crosman M1 Carbine, the wooden stocked version. My Dad's old .118 caliber Daisy spring piston repeater, and my own rather disapointing .177 caliber Daisy Rodgers reproduction of that old classic. Daisy should re-pro that pistol in 6mm airsoft. The design worked fine with the lighter weight .118 BB shot but never had the power to propel the standard .117 with anything like the velocity it should have had. Two pump action Daisy rifles, of different pump styles, I'll look up the models later on. A old Daisy lever action with a crappy plastic scope, I forget which of the kids owned that one. Neighborhood guns I've fired at various times. Daisy Double barrel break action rifle. Crosman CO2 Peacemaker Daisy double cocked Peacemaker spring gun. (not really an airgun since the bb was propeled by rod) A similar rod propeled bb rifle style gun, maker unknown , they also produced pop guns with wooden stocks and sheet metal actions, I think they still make these or at least I've seen something similar online.

Got interested as an adult and bought a $45 Chinese gun at a gun show. Later I bought a FX Tarantula and pump but sold it. Then bought an Air Arms Pro Elite break barrel and sold that too. Then a Beeman R7 and sold it. Then a Chinese copy of a R9 that I kept for years but then sold it to fund a HW77 for Field Target use. Worked great and loved the gun. Now I currently shoot a Theoben MFR in .177 for Field Target and Hunter Field Target. Superb rifle. Had to sell the HW77 to fund it and I really miss that springer. The MFR is a keeper and I plan on buying a Theoben SLR 98 as my spring rifle. Wow, I didn't realize how many had gone through my hands but getting the MFR was worth it. It's a great gun, worth every penny. Paul

I inherited it from my late father-in -law who used it to keep squirrels away from his feeder & rabbits out of his garden. I've killed cow birds & gracles with it. It will punch a hole thru both sides of an arasol can. When I was a kid my best friend got a Sheridan. I really wanted one until I got a catalog from Air Rifle Headquartes. They had rifles that would equal the might Sheridan with one pump. I'm not sure if that was true in the real world because the Sheridan fired a bigger, heavier pellet. I would like to find something, CO2 or break open that really will equal the Sheridan without so much work! The closest is a .22 with standard volicity shorts. Jerry

Velocity is about 700fps. I can't quite get the accuracy level they claim but for a single stroke spring gun it surfices.

Nothing special. Just a couple Bennys [one scoped] , a 880 I have had for over 20 years, a 760, a red rider, a AK style with a folding stock, for a hand gun an old American Classic [I think it was a 1377 or something like that] , and a couple old relics, one being one of those old 45 style and one that is a mystery to me. If you know anything about that AK style rifle or that mystery hand gun on the right feel free to tell me about them. There are no markings [that I can see] on the AK style.

Has no sights and I use a pretty nice scope on it, so this is my "pop can special"...I can hit stuff around 25 yards with this!) -1 Crosman 357SW Long Barrel Variant Pellet Revolver (This one started out grouping well and shooting high, but a barrel weight quickly corrected that...I also had a scope mounted to this revolver for a while, but I couldn't hold zero with it because of the break-open frame...still VERY fun!) --And my favorite--- -1 EAA Drozd "Bumblebee" BB Machine Pistol. You can go through thousands of round pellets (shoots more accurately with round .177 cal pellets than BB's) in one afternoon, along with dozens of CO2 powerlets, having fun with this. I've shot it in every imaginable mode...full stock, short stock, no stock, semi, 3-shot-burst, 6-shot-burst, all three RPM rates...very tough to beat in the "brings a smile to my face each time I shoot it" category!
