Finn 91/24 question... |
Lead | |
|
Gents, I've seen where a typical 91/30's accuracy depended on it being fired with the bayo attached. My question is, did the Finn reworks eliminate
this issue? Do they shoot to POI without the bayo attached? Thanks, hope that's not a dumb question. I'm currently eyeballing a Peter the Great Finn
rework with metal sling swivels. Thanks for any and all advice and info. Semper Fi -- Carl.

From what I've read and have been told, the Finns weren't big believers in bayonets mounted on rifles or in bayonet charges. They even threw the small
M-39 bayonets away rather than carrry them. (According to Finnish sources.) Finnish rifles that I have fired usually shoot close to POA, given allowances for
ammo differences and eyeball differences. Nothing as far off as the Soviet rifles can be with/without a bayonet, so although I have no official source to
quote, in my experience the Finns did not zero their rifles with a bayonet attached. FWIW, Regards.

Great! Thanks for the scoop.
My terminology was off on the model#. Apparently it is a Finn M91 since it still has the Peter the Great eagle and 4 lines of cyrillic on the top of the barrel shank. The boxed SA is on the lower left of the shank just above the woodline.

Yup M91 for sure! I concur with NotPC for sure about the bayonets. That is one of the reasons I shoot all my Russians with no bayonet also. I mean if the Finns
could make their Mosins shoot well without a bayonet why can't you take a Russian Mosin and make it shoot POA without a bayonet extended or in place? That
is why I get crazy when I see all this crap about having to use the bayonet and all to shoot accurately with a Mosin. Tell that to the Finnish Soldiers who
killed an awful lot of Russians without bayonets being in place! Bill

after having my m44 shoot a lil to the right bayo out, half a foot to the left bayo folded in, i tried just taking it off.....
SURPRISE! it shoots dead on windage now, using silvertips...groups havent increased, either....a lil better i suspect... |

I don't see why people want to make such a big deal out of it. The front sight is adjustable for windage, so just calibrate the front sight for whatever
way you want to shoot the rifle.
