Posts: 7 (08/31/08 10:52 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None i noticed the front blade was off center, i would like to start centered to zero in to see when it hits the target Left or right. their is a tab sticking from the Rside, looks like a lock for the dovetail. how do u move the sight Let or Right, and get the Tab out.. i have seen some adjustment tools does the tab that sticks out need to come out. If there's a hash mark on top of the sight that lines up the base, that would confirm it. Have you shot your 24/47? Might check accuracy the way it is first before you move the sights. I finally took my K98 for the first time to the range yesterday and it was dead on with the factory zero. Greg

Posts: 6067 (09/01/08 09:24 AM) Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I just use a small hammer and a piece of 1/4" diameter brass shaft material as a drift and after properly supporting the barrel, drive the sight over in the direction needed. But do shoot the rifle first to see how the windage is. I numerous Mausers that have the front sight somewhat off center, but they shoot right on. If the two witness marks on the sight blade and base align with each other, then that was the proper setting from when the rifle was built or rebuilt. Curt

I heard that the SKS windage adjusters will work fine on the mauser, anyone tried these, i hate to take a hammer and puntch to the range to adjust as needed.

My small hammer and drift punch is in my range bag, so I am never without it when I am at the range. But for it to work, you would need a bit of the front sight sticking out beyond the sight base. I always like to bore sight my bolt action rifles. I simply remove the bolt and support the rifle on sandbags, pillows, or whatever and look down the bore and move the rifle so what you are seeing thru the bore is some fixed small object, like the neighbor's door knob. Then without moving the rifle, look thru the sights and try to obtain a sight picture like when you would be firing it. If the two do not coincide, then you have adjustments to do. Yu can not believe how many guys I have helped at the range trying to get their new Remchesters on the paper after installing a Hubble scope on them. One guy two years ago could not hit the paper at 50 yards with his new 7mm Magnum. He must have burnt up a whole box of ammo and was getting quite frustrated. So I offered to help him out a bit. By comparing the picture thru the bore versus the scope, I had him back to shooting in the black in less than five minutes and it only took a few rounds to zero it in. And the local gunsmiths charge anywhere from $25 to $40 for that! Funny, but just this past Saturday that same guy came to the range and he remembered the help I gave him and again he thanked me profusely for the help I gave him two years ago. Curt

I prefer to use the sks tool. You will usually have to give the front sight a few whacks to loosen it and get it started first. If I use a mallet and punch, I seem to wind up chasing the bloody thing back and forth. With the sight tool, you print a group, turn the sight tool a couple or three half turns, whatever you think it needs, then print again. Then you'll know how much poi changes on X number of turns. Then just dial your sight in and tweak it if necessary (often not needed). Diplomacy is the art of saying nice doggie until you can find a rock. Will Rogers
