Won on Auction Arms 0509-58
No disc Missing the little safety switch but still works, if someone knows where I can get one let me know. Good condition almost perfect bore. Has anyone ever seen one of these in anything but 30.06? |

Did you happen to see this .......... | ||

Not my ad. But sequential serial numbered Madsens on Gunboards caught my eye, thought you might like to see, and check the price. The Madsens are at the very
end of the ad.

Thanks, Sgt Dun, mindset and lgcal20ga for the information. I've added all four to the listing. As far as value, I figure between $450-$500 for the rifle
and $100 for the bayonet. Those are the amounts that usually show up at gunshows and ebay for bayonets. The gun auctions are inflated in my book. They are
throwing out a line to see if they get a bite....$2200 for those two sequentially numbered rifles...nahhh, I ain't biting. At best, $1500 for the pair
with matching numbered bayonets.
Sgt.Dun.....all that have been recorded are 30.06 as that is the caliber that Colombia ordered the rifles produced in to their specs. From what I understand, Dansk Industries had samples of the other calibers, but, none have shown up in collector's hands.
Thanks,
Ol'Duke

They won't turn 50 till midnight on Dec 31, 2008. Just the way it is.
I need to sell my sequentially numbered ones at that price. I don't have the numbered bayonets just plain jane ones without numbers. |

I was told that they were made in 1947??????????
|

They were developed in 1947 and Colombia let out there contract sometime in 1958, hence the nomenclature of Modelo 58. Apparently, the Colombians decided that
they were going with a semiautomatic rifle since so many were available post WW2 and never took delivery or sold them directly to surplus dealers. They
ordered them in 30.06. They had a choice of 6.5mm, 7mm, 8mm or 30.06.
This is what the BATF is using as far as build date...1958. I received this directly from the BATF when I inquired about the status about 8 years ago.

Hi, Ol' Duke.
Just thought you'd like to know that I acquired Serial # 2635-58 today. Purchased off Gunbroker. Gun is 99%.....except that someone cut off the muzzle brake and front sight! I have a front sight replacement program in place and hope to shoot it soon. Price was too good to pass up. In parts alone it is worth what I paid. Regards, DRC PS Does not have the disc on the left side of the stock.

Thanks, Vvet....
I wonder why bubba would cut of the brake and sight of a perfectly good/new rifle like that? Was the receiver drilled and tapped, too. Did they at least crown the muzzle after that raped it?
Thanks,
Ol'Duke |

Thankfully, there was no drilling or tapping! The muzzle was not crowned but was neatly finished. Aside from the the barrel being cut, the rifle is nearly
perfect. Advanced Technology makes a front sight for Mosin Nagants that have suffered a similar fate. Luckily, the barrel diameter of the Madsen is within a
couple of thousanths of the Mosin barrel diameter. I ordered two of these last Thursday, 9/11, (from 2 different distributors) and received both on Saturday!
Fits perfectly and does not look bad at all. My digital camera died recently and I am buying another this week. I will post photos of the rifle and sight as
soon as I do.

I finally purchased a new camera yesterday, but am unable to create an album so I can post pics. Tried the new Yuko instructions. I will happily email pics to
anyone that is interested in seeing how I handled the front sight problem.

Make sure you are logged in.
Click "Add Reply" not "Quick Reply" You will see a bunch of stuff in the gray shaded box below the title line box. Slide your cursor over then and find the one that says "Insert Image" (two to the left of the smiley face) Click on that one and hit browse. Find your picture folder on your pooter then open it. Select the pix you want to post and click on it. It will appear in your album click on it and thar ya go. (I hope) If that don't work go to the forum about C&R photography and read how from a real expert.
