What to do with a gunshow found "treasure" |
Lead | |
|
I picked up a 1888 action without a barrel or shroud at a gunshow a few months back. Someone tried to make a turned down butterknife looking bolt handle. What
attracted me to this thing in amongst the piles of junk on this table was the bolt head and extractor that I need for another 1888. Now I need to decide on
what to do with the rest of the parts. The reciever is marked C.G Hanel, Suhl, 1896, Germany and marked Kar 88 on the side which I'm assuming is a
commercial model not worth very much historically nor really collectable. Is there a barrel available for this thing anywhere? Do I try to build a rifle out of
this (and what did it look like when it left Mr Hanel's shop in 1896?) or do I take the bolt head and extractor and consign the rest to my own table full
of junk at the next gunshow?
Thanks for the information and opinions. John |

Kar 88 on the siderail would be the military model karabiner 88. Complete and all matching examples in good condition can bring over $500 easy.

Furguss is right. The Kar88 had a butterknife bolt so it is correct. Are you thinking about selling the parts? If you have a good stock, I may be interested.

It didn't come with a stock or a barrel or anything else, just the reciever and the bolt minus the cocking piece and the extractor.

Bobby,
I really want to keep the firing pin, bolt head and extractor, but you can have the reciever and bolt body for the cost of shipping it from AK. Send me an e mail at johnsanborn@gci.net with an address if you are still are interested. |
