1907 Carbine! Pictures are here!! |
Lead | |
|
I have been a Busy Beaver here and not had time to post about it but I bought a 1907 Carbine from another board Member right before I took off on the road trip
I found nothing on this past weekend. It is all matching and phosphate coated a process KH says they did in the 20's or so. I am trying to go from memory
as it is locked away in the shop safe and I am trying to slow down and hit the bed it a bit after a trying day of errands and junk. I am hoping WVChuck sees
this and has time to post the pictures I sent to him last week in an email so you guys will get to see this little beauty. Strange thing is it is missing a
cleaning rod and when I get time to find it I am sure I have either the right one or one that is close to it. Still need to look at it closer but the next few
days don't bode to allow time for it as I am trying to get things set for a Knob Creek trip and two other gun shows later in the month plus I am flat out
of clean clothes and things like that! More to come later I hope! Bill

How did you take such excellent pictures of the bore?

I didn't take the pictures, I just posted them after Bill gave the OK to get them on the net.
I think the seller did the photos. I take bore shots from the muzzle end as it tends to help focus things better with the cheap camera that I use.

Thanks Chuck for posting the pictures and yes they were taken by the seller. He did a great job of taking pictures for sure far beyond anything I could take! I
am very lucky for sure to have been offered a shot at it and I do appreciate it. If things ever slow down here I will get a chance to look real close at it. Oh
before anybody asks about the B in a circle on the rifle it doesn't mean in this case it has been through Bulgaria I am told. Some idiocyncracy of 1907
carbines having that often and the meaning is supposedly unknown as far as I can tell. The phosphate coating certainly makes it look wierd for sure, I
can't help but wonder what it might be covering in the way of markings? This rifle has been fired with lower powered cartridges just recently by the way so
it is operational. Bill

Zeebill- not to go off topic, but I have a question for you. Some of your postings end with the letters ELT. What does that mean? Just curious.
Nice find, by the way. Some people have all the luck. Curt |

I finally got to tear it apart today and find the Phosphate coating is on everything including the bolt and trigger group too. It sure looks strange! I find
that everything is early Izhevsk on the rifle and all matching throughout. I also found some numbers? scribbled in the barrel channel in pencil but they
correspond to nothing that I can see. ELT is easy to explain as I try and make it my goal for each and everyday I get! Enjoy Life Today! Bill
PS I put some time and magic into the bore and it now shines and has great
rifling! Range trip? I have not made my mind up yet!

Newbie members....Enjoy pic's of this carbine!! One could look long and hard & never see one in the "wild"
Years ago, I had one in my hands & did not know what it was. The rifle was well sportered in a nice walnut handmade stock. The barreled action was untouched. I wish I bought it, but the $150.00 price tag seemed steep at the time. Later I kicked myself, as I realized finding such a duck was unprobable....unless I spent the bucks & pried one away from an advanced collector... Pahtu. |

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a 1907 carbine? Just from looking at the pictures if I were to see it at a show I would say it was a 91/38, with the exception
of the blade front sight. I started getting interested in MN's only a couple of years ago, but I've never heard a reference to a 1907 carbine.

The M91/38 is a slightly mysterious (as far as details go) Czech conversion of usually Imperial Russian rifles.
The M1907 carbine was a true, purpose-built Russian carbine Mosin and they are like hen's teeth. Gold hen's teeth. More reading: http://mosinnagant.net/USSR/M1907-Carbine.asp Congrats Bill! I think I've seen that one before... I say go shoot
it!

Bill,
Contrats, but Mitchell's Mausers is selling those w/ the phosphate finish... A friend of that runs a machine shop just sold them a bunch of 1907 Carbine reproduction sights..... I'll trade you your SVT38 for your 1907 Carbine? I'll even pay the shipping! ![]()
