Help with a polish mauser
|
Gentlemen, I'm hoping you can help me. I have a K98 mauser rifle. By visiting your web site I know it is Polish. On the receiver is the Polish falcon and the letters P.F.K. WARSZAWA then 1928. I think I know what these markings are. On the stock is the letter J with a circle around it, underneath is the falcon standing on a crest between a P and an F with a swastika over its head. In the crest is a large K. On the under side of the pistol grip is the falcon and another letter J in a cirlce. On the under side of the straight bolt is the falcon over the letter A and on the left of the letter A is the number 7. To the right is an iron cross. I was hoping someone could tell me how these German markings got on this Polish mauser and what they mean. Thanks Jim

I asked my father about this one. He's fresh off the boat from Poland.
Pretty much any Polish Mauser with markings before 1939 is about as good as Mausers get. In your case, you probably have a Polish military mauser which was captured by the Germans during the War, and converted for their own use. Thus the German markings. Now, if you run into a Polish Mauser (markings will say Radom or Warszawa) built after 1939, with German markings, you DO NOT WANT IT. Those were built by Polish slave labor for the Germans. And they were cruddy quality, just about useless. Purposely built badly. AntTank |

So its Polish? | ||

I ought a mauser in a flea market 10 years ago and had not paid it much attantion since. it had a strange post under the muzzle and bayonet lug like i had never seen before. A few weeks back I was cleaning out my safe and came across it again. Originally intended as a sporter conversion this one was so complete with the leather sling and seemed to be very good quality I decided to clean it upp and see what it was. A tapered barrel, no crest on the receiver, K98 on the receiver rail, matching numbers, the funky stacking post. it all is interesting but is it worth anything? I am tempted to use the receiver but it is a clean well made rifle. Any advice? |

Please don't do anything to a matching complete rifle.
Can you post pictures? That would go a long way in identifying the type/model of your rifle and better your odds of getting a value estimate.

saw it in gun collector mag

The mauser I have is definately Polish. I read an article in Gun Collector Magazine about the spanish civil war rifles and there it was. I had said in my
previous posting that the numbers matched. after that article I looked again and they do not. Seems the scrubbed receiver and non matching numbers on new parts
were because the guns were assembled in Poland from German parts. The gun has the stacking post that is peculiar to that one version. Is one in excellent shape
with a dark bore but good rifling worth anything? The gun collector article said $150 and up but if thats all the action is worth more. Sorry - but apparently
you cant attach photos without some other link or something.
