My official box-inspector gives me the paws-up. Bacon approves.
It's a No1 MkIII* SMLE
It doesn't have one of those fancy shield things, but anything from '41 is alright in my book.
As I get older, I really appreciate having a fine piece of wood.
Stamping shows the rifle was built in '42 (Year after receiver forged) Also has lots of fun stampings in other places.
All numbers match. Yay!
Dunno what this might refer to. It's on the rear upper-right receiver section.
It's an all-matching Lithgow and I am mighty pleased with it. The condition is a lot better than these rushed photos convey. Greasy as hell at the moment, but the wood is very solid and metal is groovy as well. I had been afraid I was paying a bit too much, and dreaded buyers remorse. When I opened the box I was happy as a lark. I will say this: the grease it is coated in is a mite smellier than the mill-surp cosmo and BLO I am used to. It's soaking in the sun for this afternoon to weep a bit of the stock right off the bat. Really looking forward to cleaning her up.
