I only have a Hakim so can't comment on the FNs but my Hakim is a beast. It will eat anything and keep on going. Never had a problem with it
The only issue I can remember with Hakims is if the gas adjustment knob is frozen / rusted in place. |

IMO, GET BOTH!
They both have inherently good things and bad things about them. And, compared to the price of a G-43, one each of the above is still going to be a deal. But if you had to pick one and one only, depending on how much you shoot it, I'd ge the Hakim first. Then sweat it out for a month or two, then the FN-49.

i have been looking for a while and like the looks of both.i am thinking fo selling a mg34 parts kit to have some extra money for one. i love mu k98's but
i also love the ideal of shooting 8mm in a semi rifle

until a couple of months ago, I had trouble finding just the right FN49
then I had one wander into the safe the Hakim was/is no problem as they seem to be be everywhere, and abet more reasonably priced when it comes to shooting, I've had better results w/ the Hakim tho both seem to gobble up the 8mm like it's going out of style and as of yet, I haven't experienced the dreaded 'Hakim finger'
don't worry, you'll wind up getting both rifles
good luck, and keep us posted Bob |

and as of yet, I haven't experienced the dreaded 'Hakim finger'Tempting fate for sure. I have both. The SAFNs to me are the more aesthetically pleasing of the two (it's prettier). Both work well and will gobble ammo. The Hakim has fewer parts to clean (doesn't have a piston) but does need a long AR type pipe cleaner for the gas tube. Also, the gas adjustment on the Hakim is easier to set with the port screw on top of the barrel. I took me a while to get used to the "Hakim breath" puffs of gas in my face when I shoot it. Hakim magazines are scarce but available if you look. The SAFN box magazine is just a box and the gun must be loaded from the top. Period. Unless, of course, you go for one of the pricey Argentine Navy models that shoot 7.62X51 NATO. Dave

The FN49's are going up in price more quickly, so I'd recommend getting one of those first, then get the Hakim. (unless you stumble on a honey-deal on
a Hakim first).
You'll also want to scoop up all of the Romaninan 70's steel-case 8mm ammo that you can find. The Romanian ammo has a mild pressure-curve that is perfect for the Hakim, and ideal for all semi-auto 8mm's.

Dou,
I have them both, with the FN being 8mm also. By and large, it seems like parts for the FN are more plentiful, as is knowledge...just ask Goose. |

At the NGD show in Louisville yesterday, I saw a very nice Hakim priced at $550, and a Luxembourg FN-49 in .30-06 priced at $1,000. I didn't see any
Egyptian FN-49's in 8mm, however.

I might put my name on this one to bring the count up to six... Gunbroker Hakim
Just bought my first Garand: Gunbroker Garand My brother made me do it by holding the one he got for me in Hampton hostage. He said he might keep that one, the butthead. Dave

I only have the Hakim, found it in nice condition on gunbroker in '04 for $375 with bayonet and scabbord. Haven't really shot it enough to comment at
all.
Passed up a 7mm FN-49 for $400 back in 2002 (oh well, had two guns on order at the moment but should have grabbed that too!). I do own a Swede AG42b in 6.5x55 (direct ancestor of the Hakim) and it is INCREDIBLE. Prvi Partisan ammo works FINE without oiling the cases.....and it will shoot a 1.5" group at 200 yards. No kidding! GREG |

looks like some guy used the dreaded 'buy now' button
too bad... but no matter, there's still 12 other Hakims currently on auction on GB alone just like the SVTs, the economy is forcing 'em out of the safes and into new homes Bob |

Got my sights and dollars riding on a Rock-Ola and an IBM carbine for now.
Shot one of the Hakims this weekend past. Drew a crowd and I let everybody give it a try. I got an ice-cold Coke out of the deal. Dave
