Almost told in documentary style about the end of Jesse James by his supposed friend Bob Ford and the months leading up to it. It is a long film, gritty, and as I mentioned almost seems like a documentary and not a movie. It would help to do some research into "Bleeding Kansas", the border raids during the civil war, Quantrill's Raiders and Bloody Bill Anderson's gang to get some background on what is going on. A lot of folks in the region who were southern sympathizers looked upon Jesse James as kind of a Robin Hood and didn't take kindly to Ford shooting him in the back. Gives a different perspective on what Jesse James was like and why Bob Ford killed him. Posts: 64 (11/02/08 08:50 PM) active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I'm in the DVD "Extra" on the Blu-Ray/HD DVD version, "The Assassination of Jesse James: Death of an Outlaw", which never made it to standard DVD, allegedly because of lack of space due to the length. I sort of wish they'd do a special edition with some of the deleted scenes. At any rate, the feature ties what went on before together with the film. They took some poetic license with the story, which is based on Ron Hansen's novel. Ed Miller was killed a year previous, in 1880, and Jim Cummins, mentioned in the film, was looking for him, thus Jesse's trying to find and kill him. There are some other things, but I don't want to spoil. My book, FRANK AND JESSE JAMES: THE STORY BEHIND THE LEGEND, goes into detail about what went on with both James brothers, and the creation of the legend. It also goes into Frank James' later years, which were rather wild at times.

That's why I recommend reading up on subjects before or after watching movies like this to get the real story. Your book sounds interesting. Where can it be found? "What happened? The James books of Carl Breihan are notorious for this. My book has pages and pages of notes and was finalist in 2001 for the Western Writers of America Spur Award for Best Western Biography. Most of the 73 pictures have never appeared elsewhere. My book is available on Amazon and other online seller sites.
