What do I have?? |
Lead | |

I'm new to the world of Mosin-Nagants and wanted to know if you could tell me what nagant I have. It hasnt been properly cared for and at one time was a
wall mount. It seems to be missing things like the front sight, a bolt that goes in the center and a few other items. I'm not really sure what else is
missing. The bolt action seems smooth but has been welded (picture 2380). I've read that they are very durable and wondered if this one can revived.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Len ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

No pics displayed. Many Mosins can be brought back to complete and useable condition. Accuracy may depend on the bore's condition. Virtually all parts are
available for common models. For more info (model, etc.), visit www.mosinnagant.net, www.7.62x54r.net, and www.surplusrifle.com. Contact Layne at Tennessee Gun
Parts (a sponsor). He usually has a good compliment of Mosin parts. Regards.

sorry about the pictures. I did upload them but they are in my profile. How to I get them to where anyone can see them?

I see the photos; it looks like a sporterized M91/30 MN which has a bent bolt handle and a shortened forend. I clicked on the photos to enlarge them but
couldn't. Can't tell if it's drilled and tapped or the front sight is removed.

Thanks for the information and your time. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the pictures uploaded correctly (hence the name "new at
this")

Sporterized M91/30 of 1936 vintage which is close to a year for Spanish Civil War gun but as chopped up as it is with the front sight missing it could have had
the barrel cut too. I would say maybe at best a shooter for tripping to the range. Looks like it might be Izhevsk or maybe even East German. With the price of
a nice refurbed 91/30 going from $59 to$109 or so hardly worth trying to restore to original condition. So if you don't want to shoot it at the range after
finding a front sight and getting it put on, a parts rifle worth less than a new refurb. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that is about it I think. I
can't get the smaller pictures to increase to see things closer either but then I lack the talent to take and post pictures so that should surprise no one.

Thanks Bill for your help and your time. Looks like it will be a wall mount after all.

Yep, it's value is worth the sum of it's parts & the bolt, stock & barrel have been extensively modified, so the value is fairly low. The rifle
used to be a 91-30, made by Izhevsk. I'll post a link where you can read up on these

It's a Spanish Civil War or Finn captured rifle, and if the barrel hasn't been shortened, it's worth restoring.

I might add that SCW and Finn capture Mosins are worth significantly more than the post-war refurbed rifles that are currently available for around $60-$70. If
the barrel is original length, I woudn't hesitate to use a post-war refurb with a correct stock as a parts gun to fix this one up.
