In the event I ever decide to sell, I sure hope that neal3k and Banjo62 are both still around and need what I'm sellin' as badly as they needed this!

Amazing! Part of me says "sell" and another part says "You idiot, wait until they bring some real money"! Self, that is real money! They
are hard to find, but...well, my congratulations to both buyer and seller. Regards.

Funny how those WW1 era Turkish markings jacked up the "value" of that M91 - with German Mausers and Gew 88's, Turk markings have a really
negative effect on value and desirability.

The turk markings are more than likely the reason that went so high. Hard to find a remarked M91 such as that. The Chattelraut heritage might have just added
a little on top or nothing.

I guess it'd have to be the Turk markings, but he didn't even mention if the bore was counter bored, much less the condition of the bore! I'd have
to critique the guy, as he failed to mention the Russian Revolution, Russo-Japanese War, and several Finnish Wars. That would've added another $1,000 at
least onto the value of the rifle

I know where one of these is hiding out for 175.00.

OK, I was wrong, I checked it out today and learned that it is a 1896 Imperial Tula that really is in excellent shape for its age. It is Sa marked and the bolt
is matching. The bore is dark but it may clean up. For $175.00 I may just buy it. Any thoughts either way would be helpful.

Can someone put a value on this one?

Hard to put an exact value on it without actually seeing it, or at least good photos. Things like amount of original matching, or at least correct, parts can
add to value. Also nice original stocks with visible cartouches, Finn made stocks, or American walnut stocks that originally came on a Remington or
Westinghouse can also add value.
Regardless, for a pre-1899 Mosin in decent condition, $175 is a very good price and I agree you should get it - you'll never lose money on it at that price. Finn captured adds value, and since most Finn captured early Mosins still have the Czarist eagles on the barrel or receiver intact, this also adds colector value and interest. Other things that can add value are a cleaning rod if if has one (this is a $25+ item by itself), sling and/or Finn wire sling swivels (if present, the swivels are a $20+ item, and Finn slings can be worth from $10 to $70). With an early rifle like this, you should also check the stock for any WW1 German eagles with the "Deutsches Reich" marking or German or Austrian capture markings like "AZF" stamped on the receiver or barrel shank. These will also add value to the rifle. |

Both my M39's are on Chatellerault receivers and have intact imperial eagle crests. Thought it was no biggie, but who knows what people will be willing to
spend a fortune on.
I'm still looking out for a matching Sestroretsk. |
