A friend who used to have a Swede M1896 gave me some 6.5X55 ammo. I think it may be military cases that had the bullets pulled and some rather long (like 140 grain) spitzer soft points put in place. The case head reads as follows:
VI 46
4 * 8
HA
Where * is the primer. The case mouths look like they were crimped once apon a time, but the bullets in them now have no cannelure.
Is this (originally) military or commercial ammo? Who made it? Is it corrosive? Boxer or Berdan primed? Any other info would be a big help.
EDIT - I just checked the sticky on the Swede Mauser webpage about unsafe ammo. These cases are those. But they do have lead soft points in them. Who knows what powder. I'm probably not going to shoot it.
Thanks,
Crunch
